I'm surprised not to see a thread on this already but maybe I've missed it.

What makes it intriguing for me is that it isn't what I expected it to be if the first episode is representative of the series.

Or it's presenting the story in a different way to what we'd commonly expect.

It isn't so much about Peter Sutcliffe as the lives of the victims of his crimes.

It would be easy for me to be critical of some of the non period detail but when a story is told so well as this seems to be, I can forgive that.

I thought it an excellent first episode. A great cast and really good scene setting for the rest of the story. Particularly liked the way they showed us that a whole fiver was a LOT of money to them...and how turning to prostitution to get a few extra fivers (in order to better provide for their families) would ultimately lead to their down fall. Five stars from me.

I'm not sure why I started watching it but found it to be outstanding which is rare these days.

We started watching it in the absence of anything else on at the time, and it didn't take long to get totally absorbed.

Very much looking forward to the next instalment.

Excellent cast and I like the way they have chosen to humanise rather than dismiss the victims as just some typical prostitute..Toby Jones is just one of our best actors.

Caught up with this the other night and I concur regarding the cast and the acting. Certainly much better than the trailer implied.

I heard the audio/volume was really bad (low).

Is this the case?

It was fine for me, although I used the STV Player to watch it.

Planning to watch this week.

Toby Jones is superb. As a Stoke City fan, his portrayal of Nello (Stoke City kit man) in Marvellous is just that. Well worth watching as it's an incredible story.

It was and it is. Great bit of TV that..

He’s great in The Detectorists too..never on my radar for some reason but binged it recently. An absolute ‘puts a smile on your face’ delight of a series.

Ah now, people at work are telling me to watch The Detectorists, but the concept doesn't float my boat. I will give that a go too tho!

Terrific . I spent a lot of time in the 70s and 80s (university ,then girlfriend/ friends ) and I lived not far from Spencer Place in my first year - it wasn't exactly Mayfair.. The period detail and accents are excellent .Katherine Kelly was especially good in a heartbreaking role .

Not so fun fact - along with several thousand other men , I was questioned by the police about the murders . I lived about 30 miles away, was single , dark haired and the right age. I was known to go to Leeds regularly by a neighbour who added two and two and got a lot more than five... I guess he was only doing the right thing.

I'm enjoying this series so far. Usually such shows focus on the killer and or the police and not too much about the victims.

One question. Was Peter's look (dark hair and dark beard) fashionable at the time or was it more rare? I thought most guys had long hair around that period? As one detective did say after seeing the photofit that there can't be many blokes that look like that.

I was living in Woodhouse at the time, seeing a girl who lived in Harehills. I got pulled in twice as my car, an old mk2 cortina, had been seen a few times in the area, a little bit scary at the time.
Incidentally when the first photographs were published of Sutcliffe I looked similar to him, dark curly hair and beard !

I'm staggered that anyone would refer to that miserable bd as Peter, even on a forum. Did you know him?

It's very good and portrays the 70s very well. If accurate (and I believe it probably was), some of the police were insensitive Neanderthals. I'm not sure what the undercover female was meant to achieve, other than put her at incredible risk. Was she supposed to intuit or psychically detect a serial killer?

It's interesting what staggers people these days. I'm not saying you're wrong, it's your personal opinion but I'd missed the point altogether until you raised it.

Personally, I wouldn't take issue with whichever name is used.
