Season v Series

I'm firmly in the camp of not saying something just because the Americans say it.

Is there a difference between a series and a season, technically???

A series is the whole thing, whereas a season is that year's bunch of episodes.

I'd never heard of the word season being used for a TV series until the US started getting their programmes on in the UK, may have even been before Netflix. For me, it's always Series and never Season.

It may be an Americanism, but it makes for easier cataloguing in a home cinema set up.
