There was a car advert on the TV, probably 20 years ago or so.

It was a guy in an office whose ideas were getting shot down repeatedly, so he goes for a drive in the featured car (which clearly re-invigorates him) and he comes back into the office with a spring in his step announcing "I've had a great idea for...."

Sorry if the details are a bit vague, and I promise I'm not on drugs, but does anyone remember this, and what car it was that was being advertised? (think it was a Golf, or maybe a Renault)

The car commercial you are referring to sounds like it could be the Volkswagen Golf GTI "Changes" ad from the early 2000s. In the commercial, a man takes a drive in the Golf GTI, and when he returns to the office, he's full of energy and presents a successful idea. The idea was to emphasize the exhilarating driving experience of the Golf GTI.
That sounds exactly it. Many thanks
(great first post BTW thumbup)

'Changes' was Paula Hamilton binning her ring, fur coat and what not but keeping the Golf.

Classic example of someone (or a bot) typing into Chat GPT & not bothering to check the answer.

It sounds like the advert for the R3 Rover 200 from about 1996 or so:

THAT'S THE ONE!!

Brilliant - many thanks!!

25 years on, the message of the advert - taking a step back, reassessing, and then going again (not necessarily going for a drive in a rover hehe) - is so good. cloud9

I'm so glad to see this again.

Remember it well as I used to know Robin, the “ I’ve got an Idea “ lead actor well and I know how £ much he was paid for doing it.
He gave up acting soon after making this advert and went into a Tree Surgery biz. He was a partner and I worked for him for about a year, on some very interesting jobs, before leaving to start my own tree surgery biz. Not spoken to him for years now, but I know where he works.

Back in the 2000’s, VW had some innovative and amusing car ads. One that stuck in my mind was a little girl in a series of clips using mildly colourful language.

This culminated with her walking in the park with her mother/grandmother, eating an ice cream. The ice cream fell off the cone “bks”, the clip cut to her father misfueling his car “bks”; very funny.

I'd have loved to have been a tree surgeon, but I can't stand the sight of sap.
