This must be the worst Christmas for TV in the history of TV. I can't recall a single film premiere, just the same few old films shown again and again. They weren't even 'new' old films, but the same ones they seem to show all the time. This was not just limited to terrestrial, but also Sky had nothing this year. It seems that paying for Prime/Netflix/Disney is the only way to watch a film nowadays that hasn't already been on TV ten times in the last year.

Toy Story 4 was on BBC1 Christmas Day, I don't think that's been on terrestrial TV before. I didn't like it, 1 and 2 are much better than 3 and 4.Otherwise I quite agree, I remember having to try to plan what to record, lay in stocks of VHS tapes, and now it's hardly worth looking at what's on.

Christmas has never yielded a 'good' year in terms of TV. It's one of those things where we 'expect' something special but in reality, expectations fall short of reality. I can remember this discussion being had pre-Sky era. There were more TV 'events' in the past; perhaps a film or two that hadn't been shown on TV before or a sit-com or drama special but such things have become rarer and rarer.
