Way back in the early 1960s a TV programme was made at my school, Hampton Grammar School in Middlesex.

I'm not sure if it was a one-off play, one of a series like Comedy Playhouse or even if it was made by or for the BBC. I think it was about a school master who went of the rails in some way and the name 'Fred Instance' has stuck in my memory. I recall the whole school being told at morning assembly not to look at the cameras - which of course we did. Other than that I've nothing to go on.

Any ideas how to find out about it?

Looks like the right plot but definitely not the right production as I left that school in 1965. Thanks for the lead though, it gives me some more character names to check.

That IMDB page says that Hugh Whitemore is credited as the writer.

Also by him:

1963 - The Full Chatter.
An eccentric teacher dreams of finding fame as a novelist; but everything in his life seems to conspire against him.
Character Frederick Instance
BBC Sunday Night Play - S4 E37, aired Jun 16 1963.

That's the one! It's been bugging me for decades and for some reason more so in the last day or two.
