Warnings before viewing

After the events with the bolting horses yesterday I noticed yet another warning on news feeds of "distressing viewing" or similar. They were bolting horses one with a bit of blood. Last night, Emmerdale Farm (before I got to the remote) had a warning for "disturbing scenes". I also saw a documentary on the holocaust and that had a warning!
Isn't this just a bit stupid? Do we not have a 9 o'clock watershed for "adult" stuff anymore? Why does everything need a warning, can people not cope with a bit of life's reality? Even the news has warnings everywhere. Are we that feeble minded these days? No wonder people claim to have "mental health" issues.
The only warnings I think should come to tell you an insurance comparison advert will come on shortly so you can turn it off.

We're thoroughly enjoying a Danish series on All4. It's all subtitled. Every episode has a "May cause language some viewers may find offensive". It's like Downton Abbey next to the seaside FFS. I have not read a single thing remotely offensive, so maybe the subtitles have been toned down from the original Danish. 
I suspect part of it is just to stop anyone complaining. Put the warning on and that's it, because otherwise someone, somewhere will be offended by something!

The frequency of warnigns seems to have increased markedly recently - I don't know if ther has been some fresh edict from OFCOM or whatever. Fair enough I guess at the start of a murder drama, but gets a bit wearing in each advertising break, as in a couple of shows we watched last week.

These days the default seems to be warning of some sort or a pointer to a helpline after the show. Recently I watched something on Ch5 and there was a warning after every ad break which did seem over the top. In all honesty it doesn't really bother me.

Takes less time to read, so you can fit a lot more story in.Some of the trigger warnings I see today, not just on tv but in Youtube and video games are utterly ridiculous, but I'd still take them over censoring the content.

I remember many years ago in the early days of Channel 4 they used to put out similar warnings before programmes/films containing nudity.
