Watching BBC iPlayer offline on a laptop - is it possible?

Does anyone know any tricks for watching BBC iPlayer content offline on my laptop? They've withdrawn the download feature for desktop/laptop devices. The app will let you download and watch offline on a tablet or phone, but I don't have a tablet and I don't want to watch on a phone as it's too small.

That doesn't help at all.

It says programmes can be streamed on a computer when you're online or they can be downloaded to watch offline on the mobile app. I want to watch offline on my laptop. They don't provide a mechanism for this.

The BBC in their wisdom have done away with this feature. Probably because some developer can't be arsed to update the software.

Yes, that's right. My original question was to ask if anyone knows an alternative way to download the content for offline consumption.

Look up get_iplayer with a search engine. That might help you out.

You could run an android emulator and run the app via that.... Not sure how well it will work though.
