Just started watching this on BBC1. Is it just me, or does this look like CGI animation rather than the traditional merged still frame technique? It smacks of an ITV Kids version of the original Thunderbirds series.

Shame if so, because the old animation method was part of the series’ charm.

It’s definitely CGI but meant to at least attempt to replicate the old clay model technique. I agree, the old clay models were better but creating a film took months or longer.

Yes, but that was part of the branding and charm of the show.

Bit like the latest EV Dodge muscle car I guess, not as good as the original, but sort of looks the same…

I knew the pirates movie a few years back was CGI, I thought this one was traditional clay though?

Not sure on this episode so far, feels a bit forced compared to previous ones?

Lost all the charm of the originals. Very disappointing as was looking forward to this.

Definitely a few pegs down on past films, and more ‘on point’ with BBC current policies and production guidelines as well by the look of it frown

Quite liking it tbh. A little dark.

You wouldn't know it wasn't Peter Sallis either smile

Having watched 'A Grand Day Out' this morning we think it's lost the naive charm of the early Aardman animations. Still good viewing though, just a bit too polished. Is it the first one with a Netflix connection?

Some of you don’t understand either W&G or Nick Park.
This is very much classic Park W&G and you can tell that it’s Park back as opposed to the more recent Aardman productions since his retirement.
It’s the small touches, the northern humour and general style.
Frankly it’s just bloody genius.

Understand it perfectly well thanks. It’s ste. Some of us know humour when we see it and this has none of it.
The usual Style over substance these days . Doesn’t even compare remotely to previous W&G .

Why was Nick Park interviewed on telly this week showing the clay models and saying it takes an animator one week to produce 5 seconds of animation and this film has taken 5 years to animate then ?

Well I enjoyed it. Probably stands another watch to pick up more of the background stuff.

Jeez. Tough crowd. Yes it’s still claymation but not done with plasticine models anymore so slightly easier and quicker. Still takes an age though.

280 animators..Each animator produces 5 seconds of useable film a week which is before cutting and editing.

It was bloody marvellous innocent fun. So many subtle nods to famous films from yesteryear smile

Liked that, lots of little things like the moon on the captcha security and the border signs on the canal.

Yorkshire border. Keep out.

Lancashire border. No you keep out!

Me too, watched live and recorded it so that I can spot all the gags I missed on programme. As usual very clever, nearly choked on the penguin sitting in the chair with the white poodle

Still think Wallace talks like Milliband

Edited to correct
