So the BBC now cuts to the fireworks with 40 seconds until midnight, and then cuts away during the first verse of auld lang syne.

The BBC show isn’t even live, but pre-recorded as proven by the fact SEB has posted on tiktok that she was in New York last night.

Are we not worthy of a decent live New Year’s Eve show that isn’t just a random concert with a firework interval? They used to interview people on the bank of the Thames and build up to it.

It’s a disservice by the BBC. I know American TV can be very cheesy, but at least they try!!

It was fking awful. The stty music and cheesy flashbacks over the top of the fireworks added nothing. I said to Mrs ZS they probably got the work experience kid to knock that up an hour before.

Of course, whatever the BBC does someone will always have a pop. If they had proper live coverage people would then be complaining about paying to send presenters out for a party, etc. But at least it helps portray more of an atmosphere.

Didn't watch the SEB thing, not sure why someone who had a couple of hits 25 years ago seems to be on everything these days? Appreciate I'm being grumpy tho... grumpy

Bbc Scotland showed a repeat of last years fireworks.
To be fair there wasn’t much option.

On the live versus recorded issue - it’s likely a logistics and cost issue. Getting staff and acts to appear on a show, which requires days of prep because it’s a one off is not easy, and any star worth their salt will have a much more lucrative booking available. I wonder how many of the complainers would fancy working all day NYE and getting home at 6am.

Are there any meaningful viewing figures for NYE?

These days anyone having a house party will be streaming music from Spotify or similar service rather than relying on BBC TV for a soundtrack.

Who is watching NYE tv? Surely it is just people with young kids who want to stay up, everyone else is either out having fun or going to bed as normal.

Doing vox-pops from the banks of the River Thames sounds the most dismal content possible.
