Not seen a thread for this but watched the first one last night and was very impressed.

Follows Dr Jim Swire(Colin Firth) and the aftermath of the Lockerbie Bombing.

It's not easy viewing but sensitively handled

Probably growing up on a diet of Hollywood plane disasters I've never really thought about the reality of some air crashes. The thought of random debris and bodies raining down on you out of the blue is quite frightening .

Watched some of it last night and tend to agree it is a unsettling viewing, but seems well done. Hadn't realised until the comment above that the programme was focused around a particular path of investigation/interest.

I actually went to see the wreckage at Longtown where they were collecting it and analysing things, which was a surreal first trip out from the office after completing my time as a trainee. Although we did have quite a look round, the parts we were there for were at the opposite end of the aircraft to where the bomb was.

We finished this off last night.

I have no idea whether Megrahi was innocent or not, but it certainly seems that way. Whether he was just a small cog in a very large machine is something we'll probably never find out, but the whole thing stinks of being one giant political cover-up which the public will never find out the truth of.

Me too, raises an awful lot of disturbing questions. I do often wonder how much truth is out there, this is another example, was it just useful to blame Libya?

Another great production, I like the way it was not over dramatised, the UK are really good at making programmes like this. The make up department certainly earned their keep.

I’m not really into conspiracy theories, however, I think most people are aware that the tail gets pinned on the most ‘convenient donkey’ in situations like this.

Seen all episodes now. A good watch.

Thought I knew the general story but there have been so many twists and turns over the decades it was hard to keep track.

The contrast between his quest for the truth and his wife's wish to get on with her her life was very well presented. Shows how people try and cope in different ways.

We watched all the episodes last week, Colin Firth was very good in it, was also interesting to watch as some of it was filmed locally to me.

I remember being on a driving lesson when the news came over the car radio about the crash.

A very compelling and high quality production, with great performance from Colin Firth, and the rest of the cast. As noted, we will never know the truth, even though the Americans are about to try another guy for involvement.
Driving up the A74 the following evening and seeing the fires still smouldering is something I’ll never forget.

If you enjoyed (that sounds wrong) this, I recommend you watch ‘7/7 bombings BBC 2’ it’s not a dramatisation, but rather the recollections of those involved, responders, police, politicians and victims.

Its exceptionally well crafted and produced, there is little narration from the producers, letting those involved tell (no doubt under direction) their story, it’s brought together in cohesive manner.

There are some unexpected insights from those tasked with recovery of the deceased, the police as well as politicians.

There was an article about this in the weekend papers aswell too (sorry forgot which one) which basically refuted the programme pretty much in entirety. It basically said this was a conspiracy theory of such astonishing circumstances and the original verdicts have been looked at several times and found to be legally sound.

We heard the event in Dumfries, certainly heard a faint something!

I would've been 12, didn't follow closely at the time being a bairn and didn't follow up really in later years.

I took this programme to be the dramatisation of Jim Swire's account.

Got me thinking I've been naive in thinking they (Governments, Courts) do find and rightly/fairly prosecute the correct people. They'd never pin the likes of that on their preferred boogeyman of the times for political games, would they?

Whether they did or not in this case the answer is still - of course they would! It seems since early 2020 I'm less likely to openly accept anything any level of government or news tell me.

I took it very much as his story and I think they conveyed his desperation to make sense of it all very well.

I lost a family member in a military helicopter crash and his parents became consumed in finding out what happened.
I recognise that energy and sadness in Dr Swire and in Colin Firth's depiction.
