Has a pop star ever been a revelation in a movie, or just as unremarkable as you were expecting ?

I thought Cher had definite presence and she knew how to deliver a gagline.
[ her long running comedy show with Sonny certainly helped hone her comic timing ]

Whereas Johnny Cash was as wooden as his acoustic.

Not Pop or Rock stars but Tim McGraw and Faith Hill were both pretty good in 1883.

If you want to count Frank Sinatra as a pop star, I would say definitely yes.

Mariah Carey in Precious. She was also one of the producers. Depressing film with great performances from all the cast.

Lady gaga in ‘a star is born’

A brilliant re-make but a lot of that was chemistry i guess between her and bradley cooper.

Ariana Grande in Wicked was excellent. Really very funny, and obviously can sing, though she’s always been as much an actor as a pop star.

Lissie in Loudermilk was excellent (IMO).

Tina Turners been OK in a few of the films she's been in.

Barbra Streisand probably wins this one though. Only singer to have won an Oscar for Best Actress.

A number of winning actresses have also sung but if you mean someone who was/is primarily a singer then Cher won best actress for Moonstruck in 1987.
