Jurassic World: Rebirth
Discussion
Can't see a thread on this so thought I'd start one. I'm a massive fan of all things JP, even (some of) the not so great films I still enjoy.
The original is the film that started my love affair with the cinema, so after being so let down by the last entry in the series (which was more of a disappointment than JP3) I'm glad they're doing another one.
Cast and crew are ticking all the boxes for me, there's an article today in VF with some new shots that look decent as well: https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/jurassi...
The trailer drops tomorrow, I'll be crossing my fingers it's a return to form but if they can't get it right with the talent they have on board I'll be shocked.

Trailers down
https://youtu.be/ot0cwH6r0Lg?si=Qn4TvKpmaXs1LqEo
It has my interest but I’m very untrusting of trailers these days
Pros
Not relying on the legacy characters
Scarlett Johansson
New dino designs
Less locusts
Scarlett Johansson
Cons
Another “undiscovered” island
Messing with the back story
Mutant dinosaurs?

The island and the "mutant" dinosaurs are from the book, which was MUCH darker than the original film. Also, Gareth Edwards loves something with 6 legs https://youtu.be/ot0cwH6r0Lg?si=Qn4TvKpmaXs1LqEo

The trailer didn't grab me but it does at least look new and interesting. There's familiar beats there but not a retread. It looks like The Lost World crossed with Fallen Kingdom, which could be good as I thought both of those were strong.
My excitement level is exactly the same, which I guess is a good thing.
Oh and there's a theory about Jonathan Baileys character...
he's the kid Grant gave the speech to about Raptors in the original JP. Would be a nice touch

Oh god they’ve used the awful dino/human hybrid idea haven’t they?
Looks likely yupAlso if there is one thing I really wish would go extinct, it's this awful quip-heavy MCU dialogue that's been infesting media for the best part of 2 decades now.
On face value seems very similar to JP3 but they are going in the save important Dino DNA and not somebody's child.
I like Gareth Edwards and I've heard he is trying to channel a"Spielberg" vibe apparently. Scarlett Johansson and two time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali are also a plus.
I like how vivid the colours of the islands and sea seem to be when most modern films look so moody and bland.
Will be watching this one on the big screen.

Yeah it's a gorgeous looking film. Had a rewatch of the trailer, I realised they have the original score mixed into the music the entire way through. Nice touch, one of my biggest issues with Dominion was the lack of the John Williams score (or even a nod to it). I don't think they've announced the composer for this which is strange. Hoping for Giacchino. I like Gareth Edwards and I've heard he is trying to channel a"Spielberg" vibe apparently. Scarlett Johansson and two time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali are also a plus.

I don't recall any mutant dinos from the book. Long time since I've read it though. Both book and film were very good I thought.
I think I'm taking liberties a bit there tbh, it's not DIRECTLY from the novels but it was heavily implied in both that there were many failures and there was another island where they were kept. This morphed into The Lost World film we got. There was also a JP4 abandoned script that was going to do mutant dinosaurs. So, somewhere between all that. The whole plot of the first book is warning of the dangers of meddling with nature and the horrors this creates. The first film was much more "ooooo dinosaurs" this one seems to be more "AAAAHHHH DINOSAURS"

Yeah there wasn’t a suggestion of mutant dinosaurs in the book at all beyond the gender changing stuff (Trump would be unhappy) or even of a second island. Site B wasn’t a thing until Crichton realised he needed a reason for another island after he firebombed the first one, far but of retconning there! Ditto Malcom.
The mutant idea here seems to firmly come from that awfully abandoned script for JP4 which included human/dinosaur hybrids

From memory they talk a lot more about experimenting with DNA from different creatures and how they didn't get it right for a long time in the book though don't they? In the film it's brushed over as they just used frog DNA and bam perfect dinosaur. I think the way they're going with this seems to be a natural evolution of those parts of the book/film. Kind of a Wizard of Oz moment where the curtains truly lifted. The mutant idea here seems to firmly come from that awfully abandoned script for JP4 which included human/dinosaur hybrids
Looks good, I like these movies.
Less keen on the mutant idea. Vanilla dinosaurs are big enough, mysterious enough and scary enough to be whatever a movie wants them to be. In the same way we don’t need Dwayne Johnson to wear a muscle suit on top of his muscles, I don’t think we need to have mutants on top of dinosaurs really.
But it’ll be fun regardless, looking forward to it.

That’s precisely how I feel. None of the made up dinosaurs in the Jurassic World Series have outdone the original T-Rex in my opinion. Less keen on the mutant idea. It will be s
t. I guarantee it.
This stuff has to appeal, and be suitable for, kids in order for it to make money. So rather than portraying wild animals in their true colours, i.e. baleful and violent beyond comprehension it will be a CGI fest of physics defying f
kwittery that will see you scrolling tiktok and watching this over the top of your glasses.
The lass in it is fit though. And I hope I'm wrong.
