Is any movie more feebly plotted than Ronin?

  • love the movie btw good script great actors decent action without being ott
But specifically the way Seamus keeps bumping into people with no explanation of how he found them. The last scene with thousands of people streaming out of a stadium takes the mick one time too many..

Don't. care.

One of the best 'real time' car chases on film!

I like the film but suspect it is much loved by many of the Internet fantasists who fail to see the connection between themselves and Sean Bean's character. They all know the colour of the boathouse and how to pronounce Hereford cos that's, like, really important...

It does have one of my favourite quotes however. If there is ever any doubt, there is no doubt...

On the basis that Seamus was the source of the original intel about the convoy, it seems perfectly plausible that he has other channels for obtaining information that might lead him to where the case is and where the main characters end up.

But yeah, either way I don't really care, far too enjoyable as a film and leans nicely into the whole MacGuffin thing too.

Both DeNero and McElhone said that the scenes where they're driving towards oncoming traffic isn't them acting - it was genuine fear!

There's an interesting 'making of' about the car chase sequences out there somewhere. Used a couple of retired F1 drivers IIRC.

I always recommend the original French film version of "Taxi" from 1998 which used these drivers, better driving action than Ronin:

Philippe Alliot, former Formula One racer, from 1984 through 1994
Patrick Bernaud
Jean-Pierre Jabouille, former Formula One racer, from 1974 through 1981
Jean-Pierre Jarier, former Formula One racer, from 1971 through 1983
Jutta Kleinschmidt, former rally racer and the only woman racer to win the Dakar Rally
Henri Pescarolo, Formula One racer (1968–1976), 33 times driver and 4-fold winner in the 24 Hours of Le Mans
Jean Ragnotti, French rally racer from 1973 through 1995

Jean-Louis Schlesser both does some driving for the second one and cameos as himself.

Luc Besson does love himself a good car chase.

It's awful.

Good car chase, but that's about it.

There are two car chases. The best one doesn't involve an Audi.

Best car chase in a film. Robbery ,the uk film that got the director the gig for bullitt. But I prefer the london car chase. Seems so irresponsible and a nice trip down memory lane.
Bullitt one just seems pointless. Just added in to a pretty dull film.

Le Mans

Dreadful movie, incredible cars and racing sequences (even if they do appear to be doing 60mph on the Mulsanne Straight sometimes)

I believe they shot all of the racing sequences first then tacked on a story afterwards.

I know a lot of people won't want to hear this but...

Banshees of Inishirin: One chap doesn't really like another chap anymore - that is the entire film.

I was rather disappointed as the cast were great and did a good job, but it was not a tale worth telling.

All opinions are welcome

Apart from this one because it’s twaddle

Jaws : The Revenge. The concept that a solitary shark would travel to a location where two other solitary sharks had been killed to wreak revenge on a human family as if a shark even has a concept of what a human or a family is. Then add on that it apparently follows Ellen from Amity to the Bahamas.

Thing is, where a shark is killed, Sharks will stay away.

Oh thank you. Been saying this for years. Maureen's vanity project, and why not, but for me it's always been the cinematic equivalent of watching a slide show of your mates foreign holiday. Dreadfully boring but you'd feel impolite refusing...
