Stacey and Joe: BBC1
Discussion
Not quite sure how these two deserve a prime-time series on their home/family life.
Solomon is tolerable if you ignore her pathalogical desire to hug everyone to death, Joe is meh, just a geezer who wears a hat indoors ??? .
Looks like a typical BBC contract reward series, you do another run of Sort Your Life Out and you get a nice series concentrating on your extended family.

Had the misfortune of catching this while flicking channels
Truly awful
BBC should be fined for spending license fee cash on this dross
And that sort your house out thing she does. The homes must be set up to be absolute pigsty's becouse if they live like that normally they could be done for child abuse

Its harmless fun for sure, but every review has said how useless Joe Swash is (and he is the stay at home Dad) and how he is a 'man child' etc.
So in the same couple of weeks as Adolescence, we get given an example of a useless man acting like a waste of space.
That will help....
Aside from that, its like the crap my little girl watches on YT of 'normal families', which are far from normal as they are being filmed.......... part of the problem IMO....
And yes I am an angry miserable old git.

You will have to explain that a bit further for me man? I dount I'd enjoy it, but surely televisions job is to provide entertainment for the full spectrum of society...? I'm not sure where 'any man' comes into your point either...? I am annoyingly fussy when it comes to TV yet like some utterly ridiculous programmes. I'm glad the range of programmes cater for everyone, or more specifically and selfishly, me....
My question was simply asking why you, i assume a man, would watch a programme like this? I'm just guessing here, but i don't think they had a target audience of men to be watching.Edited by biggbn on Friday 4th April 16:35
Of course people are free to watch a whole variety of programmes, but also people can critique those programmes hopefully freely without silly retorts like yours.
Its literally peoples jobs to critique all sorts of stuff from food to Art and if the answer to that is simply 'well people like different stuff', that falls flat on its arse does it not?
The programme we are, guess what, discussing is yet another 'this is how we live', but how you live with a film crew in your home, and how you live the rest of time is vastly different.
That Joe Swash is happy to play the fall guy and act like he is special needs just so Stacy can look like she is carrying to whole lot of them and working (Joe is stay at home Dad) is clearly something he felt was worth it as it just increases Stacy's stock value...........
But hey, maybe I'm over thinking it.........

Man, I'm cool that Stacey and Joe ain't your bag, that's your perogative. I'm also cool you think my answers are silly, pointless, that's cool. I dont understand your banging on about being 'a man' and what relevance this has to your point, and yet, your reply will encourage me to examine my position, maybe even move from it. But hey, this is all getting a bit heavy for a thread on Stacey and f

Peace and love always brother or sister, whatever way your tree grows, gbn x

Silly retort? Surely 'people like different stuff' is the crux of the whole matter. We liie what we like, and sometimes we can actually explain why, but other times we can't. And that's cool. There does not have to be a reason for things, sometimes they just are. I've always felt, for instance, any artist loses the right to say what their work means when they release it to the public. They can say what it means to them, and that's all. Our experiences define the parameters within which we view or translate things, the wider those experiences, the richer and more varied the translations. But yes, sometimes we jist like things, think of music, sometimes lyrics are just a vehicle for the tune and the nice noise, other times they are profound, touching...life changing?! I love the thought, as JF Lyotard posited, that all art has a latent energy only triggered by and available to the person looking at it, listening to it, reading it, whatever....I also love the idea that, as I posited, different people like different things. But then, old Jean François and I were as often in agreement as we were in opposition. Which is cool.

I am going off couple of reviews here, I've not seen it and don't intend to. Both reviews basically said Joe was in fairness a loving husband and Dad, but he was useless at being a stay at home Dad, cant cook, staying out fishing, Stacy working full time and him not pulling his weight.Man, I'm cool that Stacey and Joe ain't your bag, that's your perogative. Its all by design so women can sit at home saying how useless blokes are which Joe was happy to go along with because it helps Stacy's image and career.
Not knocking them, but its all pretty much fake. I do think in the same weeks as Adolescence that actually its awkward to have a whole programme devoted to how rubbish men are.
Joe (who seems a lovely bloke) managing the home and daily chores whilst his wife was working would of been far better for any young boys forced to watch this with their Mums.
It's a shame i guess. That Joe was happy to do this. Maybe read some reviews and what they are saying about him.
My wife works full time and as an Artist i pick up a lot of the rest, kids to school, dance classes for the girl, make dinner each night for family... yes my wife says i'm useless as that is what they do, that's fine, but i wouldn't want anyone else to say it.
If you want young boys to get out of Andrew Tates arse, perpetuating the idea that a bloke who looks after the home and kids and a loving husband is a useless freak completely void of any masculinity just doing as little as they can till the wife returns home, isn't going to help....

My, what an interesting conversation this has turned into. I work in a job that is/has been traditionally filled by females certainly in my area, yet I was unaware of this and it never occurred to me that it might be a 'female' job; it isnt, but a cultural weight has been added to it, just as It never occurs to me that televsion, music, cars whatever are aimed at a certain set or section of society, it's either good or bad really, that's the ultimate metric. You are assuming this programme is bad, you are regurgitating reviews yet have not watched it yourself. And to be fair, I'm doing the same but from a position of positivity. I'll not likely watch it, not interested. Nor will you. Yet our outlooks might say a fair bit about our attitude to life in general? Idealistic very realistic? Positive v negative. And who is right? The answer is neither of us are, but we are right for us.
Very interested in the fact you are an artist, I am always incredibly envious of people with that kind of talent. Keep on keepin on man, take care, peace and love, gbn x

Nothing to be envious about, 11 years old went to an exhibition at the Tate with my Mum and Dad (graphic designer), it was Andy Warhol retrospective, loved the Warhol stuff but remember looking at a Picasso and being mesmerised at the brush strokes and the fact 'Picasso touched that'.Edited by biggbn on Saturday 5th April 11:52
From that point on i wanted to be an Artist, like all kids I created anyway, but i read everything, found my favourite Artists and at 16 went into Graphic design but 3 years later woke up one day didn't go into work and got a train to London went around galleries and came home and said 'I'm going to Art college'.
Then 4 years at Art college, and now I'm 48 still creating, I do it because I have to, its my language. Sounds naff, but there it is, never cared for anything but being a history changer like Jackson Pollock or Picasso. To compare lets say I only ever wanted to be an F1 driver and would never be happy doing club racing in the UK.... so i don't exhibit anywhere for the sake of it, I just have a delusion of grandeur that i will, living or dead, be discovered and known as a great Artist and have books and films written about me...
I'm also a massive stereotype because i have manic depression (bipolar).
For a brief period in my 20's I was selling works in London and living a hedonistic life but i had a break down, full on Van Gogh s

For me I see things in the human condition, its my curse and my gift,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

When the BBC complains it needs to raise the license fee and then they produce this. I thought I was on C5... Why not just leave this type of program to them or the itv channels ...
Let's see investment in comedy, sorely lacking on BBC.
You only have to tune into UK gold to see how far the BBC has fallen, yet I'm still paying 15quid a month for this and highlights of sports etc.
The top brass at the BBC in their limos and expenses paid credit card must be having a right old chuckle as they dine on London's expensive restaurant and ask for yet more money a month.
Yeah, I don't like the BBC anymore.
