every time he mentions his wife Catherine
This annoyed the hell out of me , more than once on every episode and a man in his 60s taking selfies .
You are not a 15yo girl Clive .
Last night's episode got binned due to tennis ,it was the best one ,when he gets a ride in an old race car in the 100 Miglia , a little road event in the Prosecco area .
Not the 1000 Miglia .
He has no soul. It's not genuine. It's almost like he is just reading a script off a screen.
Neither wife or I have enjoyed. It's our typical go to type of telly.
He has no love for where he is, who he is meeting, eating etc.
Perhaps he is just a reflection of his job. Can read out death, wars etc with little message in his voice.

I have a theory that when you see [Person's Name] Programme Name, then that person has come up with the idea and pushed their management to work out a broadcast format, pitch it etc. That way, no matter how rubbish it is, they can't be fired, and can take it to another channel. Or, alternatively, they have contractually insisted on having a share of the programme rights. The mainstream channels seem to commission so few series of their own now, that they jump at the chance of a show which is already ready to go, and will happily accept a lower standard than they used to.
Mrs B and I love everything Italy: we’ve lived ~100km from the border for the past 25 years, I am a (not very powerfully built) director of a company in Milan, our son’s wife is from Florence; they were married in the Palazzo Vecchio followed by a reception near San Gimignano in Deepest Chianti.
We travel to different regions pretty regularly by train, car and motorbike, adore the art, architecture, music, food, wine, etc., and read/speak good enough Italian to interact with locals, as long as they don’t talk too quickly and avoid too much dialect
These programmes somehow fail to capture any of the charm and culture in anywhere he visits, let alone him convey any real enthusiasm. All encounters with locals seem very staged and unnatural, and I gave up pretty quickly. I did go back to watch the Florence episode, but that was equally disappointing.

Totally agree about the comments here. It's as if CM is addressing a group of 5 year olds. Also every time a local says something to him he repeats it: incredibly irritating.
My all time favourite Italian travel/history programmes are those by Francesco da Mosto. In a class of their own IMO. I think they're on Youtube although with associated adverts.

The thing with these shows is that every celeb visits the same places. Saw in my TV guide 'Clive goes to Venice and goes in a Gondola and tries blowing glass in Moreno'.
They all do that, must be hard for the tourists to get a look in amongst all the 'celebs' doing their travel shows.

The repeating back what the person being interviewed says really annoys me but it seems to be something most interviewers do,they must be taught it in media school My all time favourite Italian travel/history programmes are those by Francesco da Mosto.
