Wicked: For Good
Discussion
We watched the first one last weekend as daughter wants to see the new one at the cinema. I don't really see why it is so hyped - I mean if you're into choreography perhaps, but it is just a load of singing and dancing with very little plot in the 2.5 hours, and only one maybe two memorable numbers. Pretty average, though I admit I'm not the target audience!

I would disagree on the ‘very little plot’ - there’s quite a lot in this one. Quite a different pace to the first one. The cinematography was very good and the musical numbers were good too.Missed this dedicated thread...
I've seen it twice now (saw the first one several times). Wasn't a massive fan of the musical before hand but ended up loving the first one.
I was initially a little disappointed with For Good, simply because it's a lot darker than the first and the musical numbers I didn't feel were as strong. This is all due to the fact it's teaching the second act if the stage show though and all these criticisms can be aimed at the stage show in the same way. There just isn't as much fun, and the film is at its best when Glinda and Elphaba are together, which they aren't as much for obvious reasons.
On second watch however, that didn't bother me as much and I actually enjoyed it slightly more. I'm firmly of the view that watching both films back to back is the correct way to do it and would be brilliant, it's a shame they had to split it but I don't think it would have worked as well as one shorter film.
Once the physical copy arrives I'll definitely be watching them together.

Agreed. I've said to my daughter that we'll watch boh again together ASAP. Once the physical copy arrives I'll definitely be watching them together.
We've been playing the soundtrack on repeat, For Good is my favourite, she loves Wonderful!

My girlfriend loved No Good Deed. Aside from For Good I think I agree with your daughter. Could be happier was also a fantastic one that really showed off Grande's acting range, with some really delicate subtlety. There's also a tiny bit where she slips into her own singing voice which just showed how great she is at changing her vocals. We've been playing the soundtrack on repeat, For Good is my favourite, she loves Wonderful!
I have to say I've never been the biggest fan of her music (no criticism of her ability just not usually my genre) but since seeing her in the first one I watched quite a few clips of her on SNL and she's really very funny with great comic timing and a crazy knack for impressions.
We saw this at the Cinema when it was first released, we watched the first one at home the day before and we have seen the musical.
I thought it was really good, my wife has taken me to a few musicals and I'm getting more into them.
The music isn't as good in this second film, even though the first film does lean heavily on defying gravity.
The song No Good Deed though ... Wow, it blew me away. It's the only song that better than in the musical (from the cast recordings).
But yes, I would recommend but I fully get why someone would hate it.

I really am not the target audience for this!
Saw the musical in London a few years ago - I've forgotten what it was about, I just remember the price of the tickets!
The first one had defying gravity, which is a bit catchy. Again, forgotten the rest of it.
This one didn't have a story that I could discern, and boy did it drag on! Could easily have been an hour shorter.
My wife really liked it.
