Very excited for this, trailer looks excellent and unlike so much today DOESN'T give much away.
Apparently he's said this is the film he wanted to make when he did Close Encounters, but the technology didn't exist for him to do it justice.
Looks like it'll be much bigger in scope than just dealing with confirmation of Alien life.

How so?Spielberg originally wanted to film it as a straight UFO documentary, inspired by something he had experienced earlier in his life, but was delayed by filming Jaws. When Jaws proved to be a box office hit, the studio wanted him to turn it into another blockbuster, so he rewrote and fictionalised the script, with advice and guidance from J Allen Hynek and Jacques Vallee.
The main UFO scene was purportedly based on an alleged incident at Holloman AFB in the 1960s. NASA tried to stop him releasing the film, which would be unusual if it was pure fiction.

Spielberg says NASA tried to stop him releasing the film via a 20 page letter.
No one else has ever seen this letter.

Perhaps Steve's now old enough that he no longer cares about skirting around the truth and will have an actual live alien doing meet and greets, plus Q&A, at each screening.
