MTV officially died in 2025 when Paramount killed off the remaining music channels for the UK and Europe. You could argue that MTV was dead a long time ago, pretty much when they switched to being nothing but a reality TV channel, but thats another debate.

If you are nostalgic for the good old days where MTV would actually play nothing but music videos all day long, then you will love this. Someone has built a website called MTV Rewind, which plays a rotation of almost 40,000 music videos all day long. Or you can set it to only play 80's, 90's, 00's, Rock/Metal, Club etc.

You turn it on and you get whatever you are given, whatever happens to be playing.

It is brilliant. I leave it playing while I work.

So it's essentially a radio station then.

Yeah, like a radio station. If radio stations played video. But apart from that, just like radio.

Thanks for the heads up OP.

Video killed the radio star.

(First video shown on MTV incidentally)

I remember getting hooked on old-school MTV when we first got sky digital back in the late 90s; going from a grainy 4-channel receiver (NE Scotland, no chance of getting Channel 5) to crisp "HD" picture (for then), 100+ channels and a massive 28" CRT was the thing of dreams for 14-year old me. It had never really occurred to me that music videos were a thing; I just assumed everyone performed on TOTP and that was it hehe

Ah ok, we don't generally spend the day watching the telly at work.

Same. I was drawn to the music with good videos, they went hand in hand with listening to the music.

I work in online gaming and back before WFH (actually still do if you go to the office) there are TVs everywhere so we always had the tv on - mostly sports but didn’t have to be. I got a small one on my desk so could watch all the F1, MotoGP and Dakar etc. it was pretty cool.

Growing up in the 90's VH1 was like a constant in our living room unless someone was watching something else, it was like a background noise to my childhood, Pop Up Video a particular favourite.

Everywhere I used to go in the 90s had it on ... I remember the local bowling alley had it all over the screens. Great memories. The 80s and 90s were peak Music Video times.
