Netflix looking to livestream. Alex Honnold, from Free Solo, attempts ropeless climb of Taipei 101 live on Netflix

https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81987107?s=a&...

Was supposed to be 0100 gmt on 24th January. Not delayed 24 hrs for safety reasons.

This is an odd one to me. Free solo was a grueling watch but filmed at his own pace. Where as I feel this could be driven by the execs (Netflix vs paramount) with a man's life in the balance.

Its insane or incredible depending on your standpoint but with a wife and kids this guy isn't wired right.

Anyone gonna stay up for it?

Definitely thinking about it.

Will it be available on demand afterwards I wonder (assuming it all goes well)

Well his previous documentaries are clear evidence he's not wired right.

It does add an extra dynamic now there's a chance he can leave his children without a father.

These free climbers are like the rooftoppers- it's all brilliant and everything, until the day it very suddenly isn't. 'Skywalkers' is worth a watch on Netflix- a Russian lass and her bloke, both rooftoppers who became a couple, taking on the world's second highest building-

Easier to catch up with anything interesting that happens afterwards.

Why bother with hours of it when any highlights would be under a minute?

I'll watch it after the fact. I have no doubt he will do it with easy, he's incredible... but I'm not prepared to potentially watch someone fall to their death live on Tv.

Obviously there’s a time delay.

I don't think I'd watch live, Free Solo was stressful enough and I knew that turned out ok. I think this climb is relatively easy for Alex but he needs to stay focused on the repetitive bits and not get complacent.

He is a certified lunatic. Any ideas why he went around the sticky out bits ( technical climbing term) on the corners vs using the slats?

Probably made for better TV. Less background clutter, better contrast against the sky.

Another decent film about free soloists is The Alpinist about Marc-Andre Leclerc.

I assume it was just to add to the perceived jeopardy, it was still well within his comfort zone. I looked at those slats and thought I could climb that bit.

I did think the rope ladder near the top was a bit of a cop out but maybe that bit was impossible to climb.

The host also regurgitated the myth about a penny being dropped from the top having enough energy to kill someone standing below.

Just finished - he was amazingly calm and composed. Beyond impressive (and of course, insane). Could have done without the commentary and all that though, why the hell do we need Seth Rollins chiming in every five seconds?

I get Netflix want to make a big deal out of it (and have a WWE connection) but that aspect of it was more than a little tedious.

Tried to watch live but my god those presenters were st!

Made me turn off 40 mins in as i couldn’t take anymore and that was even with me and my best mate watching it over skype with each other (he is in Japan and yes we always act like 14 yr old schoolgirls and not the 40yr old men we actually are!)

Bit that got me to turn off was the shock at him cleaning hos shoes!

I do have massive respect for Alex but as above, going over the Dragons as opposed to just straight up as they weren’t actually in the way shows how:

A) easy this was for him.

B) how made for tv it was.
