Anyone watched this yet?

Martin Clunes is brilliant.

No idea how Edwards is not inside if its even half true.

Didn't think much of it to be honest- the family were like watching a soap opera and Clunes' accent was all over the place.

Martin Clunes is certainly good in it. It did make me wonder though - we're surely at the stage where AI could be used to replicate people with perfect accuracy. Would that cause legal issues that using an actor to play a part wouldn't?

I think it's more the case that many people (myself included) think AI is st and are already fed up with it, not that I'll be watching this, I've no interest in AI by choice!

Several youtubers are now insisting on stty AI to highlight historical videos and it just turns me off!

I’m sick of them too. Why can’t they have real people who know how to pronounciate

I'm with you. I'd rather see and hear a real person even if it's less accurate. It's way more believable.

The problem is that they all seem to be using the same few AI 'voices' and they usually don't bother to check for mispronunciations showing a degree of laziness/lack of care. It also often seems like they used AI to generate the actual 'script' in the first place, as well.

I've seen a fair few 'talking head' videos where they are using AI to generate a supposed human narrator - those can be quite realistic. Back when this was new tech, I thought one guy was real for several videos until whatever idiot created the video made a mistake and pasted the prompt used to create the script in, along with the actual output causing the onscreen 'presenter' to read out the prompt before the main commentary. Again - laziness all around.

AI could actually be used by someone who knew their stuff but didn't have a great voice for narration (or telegenic appearance for that matter) to make pretty polished and professional videos on their subject matter - but it's been ruined by scam artists out to scrape money with minimal effort by churning out no-effort videos.

I hate AI.

Given Spotify seems to want to play me Eight Hundred and Eight State and my 12 months old BMW satnav cannot figure out where Brands Hatch is, I think we are a little way off the rise of the machines.

I thought it was very well done , but omitted a lot of the peripheral stuff - Edwards' family, friends(if any) and colleagues. Clunes was superb , as he was in Wuthering Heights . He had Edwards' body language off to a tee ,and made a damn good effort at Edwards' Welsh twang

Thought it was good, and by necessity seriously creepy at times. The family of "Ryan" seemed a bit Wayne & Waynetta, but maybe they were.

I would say it was the right thing, not to show in any way Edwards' family. If he was in his office "working" and didn't want to be disturbed, that wouldn't be unusual or grounds for suspicion. I feel really sorry for them having to live with what emerged.

I read an interview with the journalist who broke the story, she described Ryan's parents as decent people, but driven to their wits' end by the drug fuelled car crash their lad was becoming .
