I quite like watching Professor Alice Roberts although I hated history at school.
C5 currently has her at St Barts hospital, going through it's history.
However, do not watch episode 2, unless you are really hardcore.
She recreates the operation carried out in 17th century on Samuel Pepys to remove his bladder stone. This was done before the creation of anaesthetic.
