Football Focus ending

The BBC have announced that Football Focus will finish at the end of this season. Apparently, viewing figures have declined over the last few years, so that will be the end.
A bit of a shame, as I have enjoyed watching it over the years, especially with Bob Wilson and Dan Walker.
Thought it was already finished, haven't watched it in years.A bit of a shame, as I have enjoyed watching it over the years, especially with Bob Wilson and Dan Walker.
With the numerous online football podcasts and shows, it seems a bit old fashioned now to wait a week for a few football stories/results, so I can see why it died out.
There is clearly some appetite for women's football in this country. But all the time the BBC dilutes Football Focus with an openly gay female host, women's football items and a woman footballer 'expert' then there is less time devoted to the men's game, which let's face it is of most interest to the demographic of the audience.
I admit I may be wrong. Alex Scott is very presentable and quite good at what she does. But if the supposed level of interest warrants it then why doesn't the BBC have a separate show for women's football? Then we would see the actual level of interest in the women's game. Attendances at women's professional matches is painfully low (apart from the lionesses occasional game, admittedly).
I'm afraid this sorry state of affairs is symptomatic of the apparent endemic woke feminist culture at the BBC. I fully admit that I'm an old, white, old-fashioned football fan, but I'm not anti-gay nor a misogynist. So, I'm fully expecting to be castigated by the type of people who now permeate the BBC, so fill your boots.
Football Focus RIP. Another sporting gem effectively handed over to Sky for obvious reasons.

I wish I could understand why people are like this, what is it you want that you feel you're not getting?elyuw said:

Perhaps it's a more a case of what we are getting, ie certain ideologies and trivial irrelevant non-issues being continuously forced upon us and rammed down our throat at every opportunity. I like football focus and try to watch it when I can but with the increase in the amount of games that are on at 12:30 on a Saturday nowadays most people who would watch FF will put a game on.
If the BBC really cared they would give it an earlier time slot instead of that crappy cookery program.

So many Colin from Portsmouth level replies, which is of course absolute nonsense. FF isn’t failing because it’s feminist, woke, typical BBC bias etc etc ad infinitum.
It’s failing because it is just so boring. 2 former pros saying nothing of any substance and looking totally disinterested. Reports which have zero journalistic flair. An absolute head in sand attitude to the interesting/problematic stuff in the sport. It’s vanilla. That’s why it’s losing viewers.
I’m not sad to see it go. Even if I try to watch it, it’s really hard to watch and get involved with. It was 20 years behind its time 20 years ago.
Alex Scott wasn’t/isn’t the problem. Nor is the greater emphasis on women’s football. I love StuntPegg on YouTube, could they not have at least tried something different!

Well it's a format that seemed to have proved popular and watchable for a very long time until quite recently. It s failing because it is just so boring. 2 former pros saying nothing of any substance and looking totally disinterested. What has changed about it in the past few years that has seen the viewers lose interest and switch off?

Exactly. As someone pointed out the issue relates to the fact there is so much football content daily / weekly so what does Football focus offer that they cannot get elsewhere? Its a sign of the times, but no some people seem to think its due to them showing womens football

Indeed. Same with 'Soccer AM' on Sky, trying to make week old jokes about the previous weekend's games when anyone with more than a passing interest in the game has seen it all online in the meantime.
I sometimes watch Football Focus if I turn the telly on for some background noise if I am having lunch at home, but it's certainly not any sort of Go To for news.
It doesn't help that games are more spread out over the week rather than all being at 3pm on Saturdays.
I wonder if it doesn't get much traction on the iPlayer either.

The last time I watched it they had seemed to make a shift to the yoof market - fancy graphics, community outreach stories, pushing the diversity of the sport, I would say it had where it had become more of a magazine show that a highlights show etc
Older retired and semi retired watch FF. in general the BBC struggles with a declining youth market.
The key growth markets, particularly the Under 25s would've watched the relevant match highlights and discussed them within 24 hours of them happening. I dare say they are not too interested the community outreach football programs for XYZs in some beat up UK town.

I used to love FF as a kid (Lineker era) as it was the only place I could regularly get the football highlights, not having sky, and not staying up to watch MoTD. Sadly though, I think it's just lost is relevance and with so much content available absolutely everywhere that I doubt anyone was watching football focus and learning anything new or using it to get their football fix
