We often get directors changing scenes and altering the meaning at the end of films claiming its their original intent, but have
we ever had films with duff soundtracks rescored?
I can think of one off the top of my head. Daleks invasion earth 2150 .
Obviously as a small child watching this film it was pretty entertaining but now as an adult you wonder if they mixed up the tape boxes.
Maybe they though the subject was a bit grim for a family film, so plonked this upbeat cobblers onto it.

Probably not worth it, economically.

If an old film did well then there's probably no need to try and improve it. If an old film did badly, it's unlikely that a new soundtrack will entice people to either rewatch it or try it for the first time. Would just be director ego if he got the backing and permission.

I've noticed a few old films that have had some CGI and sound effects enhancements in more recent releases. E.g Jaws, Star Wars original trilogy...

The first one that springs to mind is Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. It was a silent film which had a soundtrack by Queen added in the 1980s.

Do I think films with existing soundtracks be updated? No. I think George Lucas made the original films Star Wars worse with every update. I can’t think of any film that has been improved with constant tinkering.

Director’s cuts and extended editions are a slightly different case. They are generally re-editing existing or restored footage. I’m happy with that, even if I don’t think the result is always an improvement.

The films where the actors mumble their lines while loud s
background noise or music plays could have the dialogue louder and the background noise.quieter.

Giorgio Moroder, although Freddy Mercury did feature on it.

It doesn't strictly fit the scenario but Legend (1985) had two separate soundtracks for releases either side of the Atlantic. One by Jerry Goldsmith (Euro version) and the other by Tangerine Dream. We ended up getting both versions over here depending on whether it was the theatrical/TV version.

The two versions are so unalike that the film itself pretty much feels entirely different.

I guess anyone could craft a soundtrack to a film and dubb it on. The film I mentioned could be a lot darker with a different soundtrack than the
marching band bks its got now lol.
