It was handled really well and with compassion but horrible to watch, you just had the feeling he was not going to make it.Having watched the first two episodes, I have to agree, a brilliant programme and brilliant staff. Reston in ICU, wow.
Also the spinal surgeon from Ep1, imagine getting a call to say a young lad has sheared L3/4 and needs an urgent operation that evening to give him any chance of walking again. I know that’s his job but no messing, straight on to the theatre team and get going to give him a chance.
Southmead is our local hospital and the size and scale of it is amazing. We had the tragic situation a few months ago of watching my SIL pass away quickly after a shock S4 liver cancer diagnosis, the care and professionalism of the staff were amazing.

I watched some of last night's repeat showing, having seen this thread.
Agreed, the way in which the ICU doctor handled Paul and Paul's family was really impressive. Compassionate but totally honest about the patient's prognosis. It seems like he has a great team of colleagues in the ICU, too.
By contrast the patient who was stabbed / fell on a random bottle was an idiot for not telling the doctors what had actually happened to him. Was he worried about losing street cred or something?

I watched this episode last night by chance, nee to say I'm a bit confused.Two chaps motorbike accidents.
A lady kicked by her horse.
A drunk idiot who is taking all resources there somehow and bringing alcohol to the hospital.
In the meantime, loads of people suffer massive waiting times, I can't even describe the amount of resources especially spent on two young chaps. (Motorbike)
Aren't these a bit massive drain on NHS? I mean, I do not have a chip for not having a bike or horse. - I used to have a vespa and my son regularly goes to horse riding sessions.
Feel free to swear at me, or disagree just throwing an opinion. We have a family friend recently had motorbike accident, loads of surgeries, and etc... the driver is in fault but obviously he was joy riding (not commuting or necessary travel)

I did wonder why the drug that Paul overdosed on wasn’t mentioned, not that it was difficult to work out what it was.
A lot of respect to Paul's family for allowing themselves to be filmed. Very sad.
As to young lads stabbing each other, I guess it's pointless making them watch shows like this, but what a waste of resources just mainly due to pointless rivalry and disrespect.
I suppose it gives the medical teams good practice for knife wounds but their expertise would be better used elsewhere.
