Well.
most of the cast are back in the 70's, half have been there for 3 years waiting for the others to return after john left and went to get them back.
but a few of them are on the island but are not in the correct time/year zone as the rest.
Not confusing at all.
oh and syed shot younger ben, but survied.

Oh and they are to blame for Ben being so messed up and heartless. It is so confusing but addictive!
So how come Richard looks the same age in the 70s compared to the present time!!??

Not sure but I am sure if he could bottle it he would make millions

It is so confusing but he has definitely sold his sole to the devil/similar not nice thing.
Everything that happens on the past island has already happened - oh dear it makes my brain hurt!

We are seeing him at each point after he's jumped I presume.

I did presume it was something like that maybe that is how they all get back to the correct time in the end? We are seeing him at each point after he's jumped I presume.
I am sure the ending will be nothing like I am expecting - I just hope we get an answer to all the little questions we have had since the beginning.
It reached a stage for me where it was like they were just making too much stuff up as they went along, but the last few episodes have really picked up again I thought. Its quite ironic - if Sayid hadn't shot ben, they wouldn't have had to give him to the others and maybe he wouldn't have been such an arse in later life!

The smoke monster, why the plane crashed there in the first place, how Echos (sp?) brother ended up on the island too, the polar bears, why people get better on the island, why women can't have children there... there are loads of them!
Maybe I am the only one
The smoke monster is protection for a temple. Based on last episode and where richard halpert took young ben this would seem to be a magic healing soul eating temple.Maybe I am the only one

The plane crashed because the island hops about in time and loaction. Again based on the last few episodes this would just be bad luck. However now they are in the past they would have shaped the present at the point they crashed so had to find the island to make the present the present. That may be a more bizzare answer though.
Echo's brother was a drug running pretend preist. It seems he got unlucky and his flight intersected with the wandering island.
Polar bears were on the island as Dharma kept wild animals in cages.
The last two are unclear to me at the moment but we do know that kids can be born as recently as the 70's. To be honest it has got really good again in Series 5.
