Is it set up?

I was watching it last night, and never really realised but all the people on it do is go on about funds for this and no money for that.

Which is all quite convenient as their telling it to a millionaire who wants to give away some money.

Or is it just me?

Ah yes! I forgot all the other rooms.

Sorry mods!

I just thought, the man in the church just went on about money and not being able to afford a cafe.. The Polish couple went on about not having any money, and to me.. It was abit set up.

Or maybe there's loads of footage (many not money related) but due to the nature of the programme, the money footage gets put in and the rest not.

The programme is about money you know so not much point having a programme where there is no discussion about money biggrin

True but i would of thought that some sort of middle ground would of been better as last nights did look very set up.

There was one where the millionaire was telling a guy in a cafe what he was up to and this guy turns to him and says "Are you one of these secret millionaires then?".

Cue the millionaire stuttering "er... erm.... er.. no!"

I wonder just how much longer this series can continue for. Surely it will seem obvious to many when a camera crew with "someone new to the area" turns up now at a voluntary group.

The first series was good and quite touching, but it's got rather formulaic and boring now.

I want to see an episode with Fred Goodwin as the millionaire...

Fred: 'Actually, I haven't been entirely honest with you. I'm not really a penniless tramp, I'm a very successful businessman and millionaire. I was really touched by your struggle to keep the Youth Centre going and I just.... (gets chequebook out) ... decided to keep it all myself. Bwahahaha!'

Was last night the Dundee episode? that pretty much explains all the begging and complaining about money.

Im pretty sure its all researched and they tell the Millionaire who to volunteer with on day one and who to chat to on day two. Edit a full week together to make an hour long programme and it seems all these people want is some cash.

Surely a) you only get tax releif when donating to registered charities, not individuals and b) it's only 18% (i.e. difference between higher rate and basic rate) you claim back, so not really 'all offset against tax'.............

It has to be set up surely.

How many people would be able to walk into a new area, complete with camera crew, and talk themselves into a rented house, a job in a cafe and gleen loads of info out of quite often closetted people.

It just wouldn't happen like that.

I find the funniest part being when the multi millionaires are "touched by something" and give them a cheque for 10K.... Maybe it's just me, but if I was on TV and I mentioned my company every 5 minutes I would give a lot more than the price of a new Ford Fiesta to change people's lives!

nono We're not all that bad.....I hope hehe

I missed it, but I know there was a lot of unhappy Scumdee's due to the Polish couple getting a handout. But considering there is a very high % of Polish living in Dundee, why the heck shouldn't they be considered. I mean, at least he worked for a living....although she could maybe have kept her legs closed for a while paperbag

No all of you I suppose, the guy that faked being homeless to scam money outside of Tesco Metro while wrapped in a curtain was always a nice chap.

You assume it's their money they're giving away?

Do you know different?

Some give away 30k, some 50k, some 100k and one I saw I think it was 150k+.....

I do agree though that in future how many people will see a person turn up in a deprived area with a film crew and will think straight away that it's the "secret millionaire"... I have also noticed that it used to be a lot more about the person struggling to get by on the Job Seeker's allowance or whatever and not being able to eat properly and heat their house etc... and actually working somewhere as well. The current crop just seem to saunter around between charities..

I think the concept was compromised after the release of the first series. It must be at the back of anyone's mind now when a mysterious stranger willing to volunteer arrives in the community with a film crew.
