It looks very very.... Hollywood. Darkness, CGI, gruff mumbled voices, CGI, deep meaningful looks, CGI, etc. Presumably in the manner of DaVinci Code + sequel. Jeremy Brett was the definitive Holmes, end of story.

I'm a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes the character. Read all the stories, and watched all tv shows (sad, I know).

When I first heard about this, I had a lot of doubts...and still do. In my mind, Jeremy Brett is the only person to get the Character of Sherlock Holmes spot on! All his little manerisms and character flaws were portrayed brilliantly by Brett.

I don't think this will do 'Sherlock' any justice at all. I'll probably watch it when it comes on TV or DVD, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Is it supposed to be a comedy?

It's certainly not Sherlock Holmes, even the Michael Caine/Ben Kingsley film about Watson doing all the detective work is nearer the stories than that looks. Hell even the Peter Cook and Dudley Moore version of the Hound of the Baskervilles looks better already.

It's been Hollywoodified using as mentioned the old tricks of night time scenes to hide the CGI, big name star to lead (could have been Antonio Banderas and it wouldn't have made a difference) and a crash bang wallop plot that I don't recall as one of Sir Arthur's own.

I think I can hear something turning underground.

Ps.....oh I've seen it's a Guy Ritchie film, explains it all now.

Odd - I hadn't noticed that but the scene in the trailer where Jude Law and Downey Jr are sort of lying on each other in a warehouse and one says 'what have you done...?' or something, reminded me of a Guy Ritchie 'Typical Gangster Warehouse' shot. Must be in another of his films...

I'm actually looking forward more to someone on Youtube doing over dubbing an old Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes film with soundbites from Snatch like they did with Star Wars. Probably won't be too far off the film.

yes Totally agree with you there SB and not sad at all. I have the full JB boxed set, several copies of the books, the New Annotated Sherlock Holmes boxed set etc, etc.

I also have a couple of stories written by a PHr where Holmes and Watson have new adventures! cool I am still waiting for him to publish the rest - you know who you are wink

Without a Clue was the best Sherlock Holmes movie ever.

I think this is Guy Ritchie trying to "Hollywood" things up a bit too much.
