Why do people want to go on the Apprentice??
Discussion
Often wondered this.........
First of all, let me say it is a great show, very entertaining and I think Sir Alan and his team are superb.
However, I cannot see why people feel the need to make an ass of themselves on national TV, open up much of their personal life and lets face it, trample all over their fellow competitors for ten weeks for the relatively small sum, (whilst not chicken feed) of £100,000pa. By the time tax is taken out, it is hardly a fortune, and you can be sure Sir Alan will make sure he gets his pound of flesh.
The average busy GP/Consultant in the NHS will earn something similar.....Many premiership footballers earn this (and more) per week, no, I think the attraction is not so much they want the actual job, but they covet the fame and attention going through the process brings them.
Having said that, I guess they'll have around 20,000 applications for the next series.....

absolutely said:
I'd apply. A lot of my friends at uni also said they would!
Well I understand to anyone coming out of Uni, that salary is probably an absolute fortune, but on the show in the past some contestants have been earning much more than 100k already, in their successful business careers.....Im in the same boat as the Students as this really. Ive completed my 4 year apprenticeship and work now pay for me to go uni aswell and we were talking about applying for it, just to see how far we would get really, there were a few 21 yr olds and that on there. Similar skills to what they are blagging.
I see there is going to be a junior apprentice series next year. However, what I would like to see is a senior apprentice. With the present lot, they are old if they are pushing 26, with all of 4 or so years of post-uni experience. How about a series with people who actually have experience? Actually, come to think of it, tasks might go smoothly, there wouldn't be half so many rows and they would talk back to Sralan, so would not make "dramatic" telly. Might actually find the right person for the job though, instead of the least worst. By senior, I don't mean geriatric, just 35-50 or so.
The urge to appear on TV is overwhelming in some people. There are now so many "voting off" type shows out there that there is now an avenue for virtually every type of activity to be processed through this type of format.
In most cases, however, the people who apply to appear on such a show are not really the best people to succeed in the chosen activity after the programme has finished. They are selected by the programme producers for their televisual appeal - which ensures many of the candidates are borderline mental cases.

One of our own was on the series a couple of years ago.
Tuan did rather well before (IIRC) becoming disillusioned with the whole thing.
If he sees the thread I'm sure he'll chime in.
I think he earned more than £on offer too - sure he had a lambo at the timeTuan did rather well before (IIRC) becoming disillusioned with the whole thing.

Don't forget he also had a 360 and a rather powerful bike as well.
