Documentary about the meteorite crash that wiped out a large part of Siberia on More 4 now. Pretty interesting so far.

You can catch it on More 4+1 at 11pm.

Fell asleep watching this tonight, it was quite interesting so annoyed I missed it. Will look for it on the channel four catch up thingy.

I caught the beginning of this but then had to call it a night, I've read up about it before and it really was a huge blast, just imagine the devastation if it had happened over a major city.

Read the Arthur C Clarke book about this years ago, I imagine the destruction if it HAD hit a town would have been on par with Hiroshima / Nagasaki..

Have the programme Sky+'d, just needed to find to watch it.

According to Wiki (yes I know, but this one has good references) estimates of the blast are around 10-15 megatons, which makes it roughly 1000 times as powerful as the Hiroshima bomb. The blast caused damage over 830 sq. miles eek

Didn't know Clarke had written a specific book on this incident - although he used it as inspiration for his novel "Hammer of God".

It was covered really well in Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series back in 1980.

Sounds more likely.

The series should really have been called "Arthur C Clarke endorses documentary on weird things about which he had nothing to do except the opening and closing sequences".
