He believes getting to the moon was an achievement by thousands of people. He didn't want the media focusing on him.

Not sure where to find the speech. Wouldn't mind seeing it though.

He doesn't decline ALL interviews. However, he is VERY choosy about the number of interviews he undertakes. He is quite happy to attend Apollo related events on a restricted basis and on important occasions.

See if you can find the documentary "Being Neil Armstrong" which was BBC a couple of weeks ago.

If you saw NASA: Triumph and Tragedy a few weeks ago you'd have seen a few brief snippets of him. It certainly made me sit up and take notice as I don't think i'd ever seen modern footage of him until then. Fascinating man with an enviable career (even without the NASA bit).

Someone told me he had narrated a series for Discovery: Wings. Does nayone know what it was?

He fronted a series for Discovery called "First Flights" which looked at significant developments in aviation history. He didn't quite narrate it, but introduced each programme and linked various segments within each programme. The series was made in the mid 1990s and is pretty good.
It was originally shown on mainstream Discovery before they divided up the channel into specialist areas - which I think weakened the whole channel (a bit like what happened to P&P smile).

He also stopped signing autographs after he found people were selling them on the internet some years back

I'm not sure to think about that, either extreme naivety that he would think they wouldn't do that or now just ignorance that he won't sign as not all of them will do it. Autographs are sold everywhere.

In fact by not signing autographs any more he's put the price up of those that he has by their rarity, making more profit for those that sell them.

Thanks for the info Eric. I can't seem to find a recording of it anywhere unfortunately (by 'anywhere' I mean 'on Google'), I guess it pre-dates DVD and YouTube etc.

If anyone wants to see NASA: Triumph & Tragedy, here are links to the first parts of both episodes from YT. The remaining parts are linked on the YT side bar thing:

Episode 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZE7smrNI6Y
Episode 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryU9PGLTkcI&vid...

I thought it was quite a good couple of programs. A bit rushed maybe, as it covers Apollo to the later Shuttle missions in just two hours, but well put together and with some lovely accompanying music in my view.
