After unsuccessfully trying to use the hopeless PH Search facility, I couldn't find a post about this weeks Fifth Gear.

I must say that this weeks episode is head and shoulders above TG at the moment.

Good content, topical and informative. Not so much clowning around.
By far their best episode this series. Typical its the last show.

James Martin in a F1 car.?

Thoughts..?

Fantastic show!

- Classics Cossies.
- Some eco stuff/real world motoring.
- Hot hatch testing.
- A 'wow' supercar
- Star in a reasonably priced F1 car.
- Win a great little car.

Proper car show; really enjoyed it.

It was ok, but the fat bloke is really cringe worthy.

with regards to the 'hot hatchlette' test, were they at Elvington?

Yup! A good show, only let down by not having dropped a piano on the Honda Prius.

I thought it was ok, but I always do; I havent turned top gear on for the last year or so, so can't really compare.

James Martin did OK, I seem to remember Hammond not being able to drive it, couldn't get the brakes hot enough. That isnt a criticism but more an illustration that they are not easy cars to drive, he seemed to go ok!

Looked like Bruntingthorpe to me, using the short track with the wiggly esses onto the runway half way down.

Hammond drove a 2008 proper Renault powered F1, James drove a 1996/7/8 era Benetton with a Judd v10 engine, not the Renault that used to be in it. Less power and more mechanical grip from the slick tyres.

Ruined by the presenters (Tiff not included in that). Those three arseclowns should be placed inside a huge wickerman on the Top Gear test track and burned whilst Stig does doghnuts around them in a Caterham.....

Why not, pretty much the same performance. GTIs not exactly bargains though, they are rather overpriced

It seems like a good choice to me, the Lupo GTi is a brilliant little car.

Have you driven a Lupo GTI? If you havent I suggest you do! It is easily a good alternative, budget or not!

Pretty good show. Could have done without the commentary between pieces but I guess they like to go all Top Gear.

I think the Lupo was a pretty good alternative - first time their alternative made any sense. But did they say it cost £3k? A quick search through PH classifieds doesn't show many Lupo GTI's for the £3k mark.
