2001: A Space Odyssey.

Subsequent reading of the novel straightened some of it out.

That has a very similar story to The Lost Highway.... (also by David Lynch)

Ones I remember as being particularly weird are:
David Croneberg's The Naked Lunch - very weird....

Primer - The most confusing time travel film ever - makes Donnie Darko seem like an episode of In the Night Garden...

watch it again, and the penny will drop.

gold was in the briefcase for pulp fiction - when he opens it in the diner.... and it glows, erm - gold hehe

Confused. Pah. I scoff at your easy to follow mainstream films.
Try 'Primer'. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390384/
Little known budget sci fi time travel film type thing. Outstandingly executed but phenomenally confusing.

Another vote for Primer - simply an awesome movie. So hard to follow but so worth the effort!

star wars holiday special. most of it is in wookie, and halfway through it turns into a cartoon to explain the plot. if you can last through it all then please send me some of your drugs.
