This starts on Sky One next Tuesday (3rd Feb) at 9pm for those that are interested. Looks like it's a double episode to kick off the series.

Hell yeah!

I thought the pilot had a bit of a slow start, but the way it linked at the end to the rest of BSG was superb.

The VR stuff and politics does seem quite interesting, however I am worried that this might not be enough to fill out a whole 20 odd episode season let alone run to two, three or more seasons.

I hope that it doesn't fall into the 'X-Files' trap - by that I mean only every 4th or 5th episode brought the story along and the rest was just individual episode stories as filler.

My guess is they have a niche but captive audience at least at the start and as everyone knows what happens in 50 years time anyway, they can just decide to 'finish off' the programme in two or three episodes if the ratings aren't good (Sarah Connor Chronicles...).

Ok, I just watched the first two episodes tonight on Sky HD. Not only does it look great on my 7 1/2 foot screen but story got off to a very good start.

Good acting, good sets, lesbian kissing and big guns, what is not to like, oh and and a very nice tie into BSG. It should be interesting to see how the political and criminal game play out. Not only that the Cylon looked kick arse. As you may have gathered I liked it. Roll on next week.

SPOILER if you didn't see it last night.

I'm slightly concerned that, going by last night, the cause of the whole Cylon conflict is down to some petulant teenager.

Thinking about it, it does happen.

Just think what our world would be like if the art tutors in 1920 were not so harsh to a certain Mr Hitler? Or indeed if a Private cleaned his rifle properly and the next bullet hit Mr Hitler when he was a messenger in WWI.

The 'Cold War' at the end of Hitler's jaunt meant that the US had battle plans which involved nukes about a dozen times since. If the roll of the die was another way, we would not be here now.

Few oddities already, what's with the touch screen computers abd holobands when the battlestars of the future all seemed to have keyed computers and no mention of or reference to holobands in BSG?

Caprica is set 50years prior to BSG...

Galactica appears to have been commissioned the same year as caprica has started.

being a military combat vessel, maybe all systems installed were chosed for ruggedness and durability rather than the latest temperamental bleeding edge tech ?

also, maybe holoband wouldent work in deep space due to lag and security reasons ?

remember.. galactica doesnt have ANY networked computers onboard

But the Pegasus did, they were in re-fit though so the network was down, thats why they got away, no such tech on that battlestar.

Re the Galactica, the computers are there, they're just not networked and proved in one episode when Gata recommends they hook the computers up in a network to calculated the jump co-ordinates after Galactia loses the fleet. The Cylons are then able to hack the network.

Re the holobands, no one is BSG refers to them, maybe they were in existance with no mention but I would have thought if they were people would use them recreationally, maybe they were banned after the cults had abused them?

The tech in Caprica doesnt look newly developed to me, automated robots for house keepers, touch screen computers, drones for target practice, they would have almost definetly been developed for military use before hand, yet do not appear in BSG.

I'm guessing most of this is to do with what occurs between Caprica and BSG.
Ignoring the fact it could just be a production cock-up, I have a rough theory.
I guess that a large war with the cyclons in the future would cause a negative view of advanced technology that is not in direct control of humans. So any kind of robotics, computer/human neural interface and freaky technolgy would be shunned.

If you look at modern battleships, none have touch screen technology even though it is readily available.

It's all very similar to how people reacted during World War 2, refusing to use any enemy technology, German Sherperds renamed Alsatians and generally demonising the enemy.

So I reckon even though the technology was there, during the war it was rejected and forgotten about. 50 years between the two series is not a long time.
