Hares don't run around houses spreading disease and eating electrical cables.

Social conditioning, people grow up being told rats are dirty, if a rabid rabbit was running around a house and they killed it with a dog there would be complaints because people are conditioned to think of rabbits are fluffy cute bunnies. That being said taking an air rifle out for a night time rabbit shoot fest was interesting smile

I actually found the skull crushing (the sound) of the caught rat the worst bit, that was nasty.

The dogs kill the hares by ripping them to bits. The Jack Russel kills the rats very quickly and it's more humane than poison or traps, local farmer has two jr and can kill 20 rats in 5 mins. It's pretty impressive to watch.

Also it was not an air gun it was a .22 or similair with a silencer.

I quite liked those guys, seemed genuine. smile

A running dog could kill a hare just as quickly if it was trained to do so, perhaps with a bit of ratting.

(That's leaving aside the fact that a high proportion of coursed hares would escape anyway.)

Errr, so I gather THIS "Rat Pack" has nothing to do with Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Dean Martin?

Cheers,
