Gutted about this.. After the awful movie, this was just begging to be remade by Anderson in CGI....

I always thought that the rights to Thunderbirds and all the other Gerry Anderson series were owned by the late Lord Lew Grade's ITC company (not ITV itself) - or has ITV somehow acquired these rights surrepticiously?

ITC was a production company that sold its output to various ITV independent networks. That's why not all of Gerry Andersons's series ended up being broadcast by every ITV channel.

At the time Anderson was making these programmes, there was no such channel as ITV. Instead, ITV was an umbrella name for around 20 independent ITV franchise holders who commissioned their own programming independently.
The modern "Stand-Alone ITV" only came into being within the past ten years or so.

I was a member of SIG back in '81! Lots of great memories, and the early convetions were FAB - some of Barry Gray's alternate lyrics fo Captain Scarlet are still stuck in my head.

ITV blocking the chance to make decent TV?

Shock horror.

Something needs to be done to wipe that horrible live action film out of our collective memories, Mr Frakes needs to be shot for that.

I would prefer a Terrorhawks reboot. Much better show than crappy old Thunderbirds.

ITV spokesperson probably said:
We are extremely proud to represent Thunderbirds, which we have taken to millions of fans around the world. However, it's not a game show, and doesn't feature pets or celebrities.

ITV recently co-produced a special documentary, All About Thunderbirds, for the BBC (because there was no way that WE were going to show it, as it's not a game show, and doesn't feature pets or celebrities) and we are always open to developing new and exciting opportunities for the show. Like turning it in to a game show. Or perhaps "Celebrities pets do the funniest impressions of their favourite Thunderbirds characters”. Or perhaps "I'm A Puppet, Get Me Out Of Here". Ant & Dec could present it.
