So I wanted to record the Beatles programme on BBC2 at 8.35 tonight so I went into the other room at 8.30 and checked that the Sky+ box was on BBC2 and pressed record. Simple really.

Later I decide that I want to stop the recording and watch the programme.

But I find the the Sky+ box has not recorded it but has recorded 8.30 till 8.34 (or there abouts) and then 'told' me that the programme has finished and stopped recording.
If I had been watching the TV I would have known that the programme had finished but if I had been watching the TV I would not be wanting you to record it you muppet.

Why do these new things think they know what I want? My old VRC just kept recording until I pressed stop (or the tape ran out), even my hard disc recorder just keeps on recording until I tell it to stop and it's only about 3 years old.

So I go to BBC iPlayer and I have to install this and that - sod it, I'll just find a torrent.

I know that some of you will tell me it's simple to work a Sky+ box but I still think if I press record then it should do as I want and not try to 'think' it knows better.

I did not watch it, but I heard some stuff on the radio about them the other day and never knew that they were on the first ever episode of "Top Gear"!!

The Sky+ recorded what you told it to.

If you wanted to record the program that started at 8:35 you should have selected the program that started at 8:35 and pushed record. It's really, really easy.

You told it to record the program that was still running. It did it.

Silly.

The only thing you have to install for the iplayer is Flash. Takes all of 1 minute. Be very surprised you haven't already got it installed...

Metering on digital cameras. Last weekend we spent about two hours trying to fool the automatic metering into taking a decent picture. With my AV-1 I can make it meter the level and then move to take the picture, but no. Some git at Pentax thinks that he knows what I want. He doesn't. He's an arse.

Perhaps you'd like the system to guess which programme you'd like it to record, rather than the one that is showing when you pressed record? How does it know you actually meant 'record the programme that comes on next not the one currently showing'?

You would be rightly annoyed if you were watching something and thought 'Well I'll catch up with this later' and hit record, only to find later on that it had in fact recorded the next programme on that channel.

And if you think it would be a good idea to hit record and have the system record that channel until you tell it to stop, then you would end up with a full hard drive, and not being able to record anything else until you'd watched and deleted what you had recorded.

It's not second guessing you (I find that kind of thing annoying myself), in fact if it were to assume you meant to record the next programme, which is what you wanted it to do, then it would be second guessing you.

Not got sky. No way of recording from the freeview either.

In fact 4 days a week I don't have a Telly. (I rent a room as I'm working away from home, and can't be arsed)

Thanks for that, very relevant to the thread. I don't play golf. Never have, never will. Probably

I like calamari. But I don't have Sky, plus or otherwise. It saves the frustration, so I suggest the OP burns his Sky box to death.

SkeggySteve,

BBC iPlayer is very good. You have a choice of BBC1, BBC2, BBC3 and BBC4. You don't have to install anything if you don't want to, you can simply download the programme to Windows Mediaplayer or for your mobile device (but not iPod).

Or you can download the iPlayer Desktop(simple) and watch through that.

It is all good and miles ahead of anything ITV or Channel4 have to offer.

The mobile device option is particullary good.

Sky+ is a st system.

Thats all.

Its stitched me up many a time by only partly recording what I want and its not helped by Sky not putting the ir programming on to match the times listed on the guide. Actually, Eurosport iis the worst for this.

Record the Motogp and the fkin tennis banghead

That's not skys fault. If a program over runs I think it's the responsibility of the channel to update the EPG to alert sky to the fact that it's running over.

You can set it to record x minutes after each programme though.

Can you not set up a manual recording like you can on the V+ boxes from Virgin?

hmm if not you bought the wrong and more expensive product for the problem you have.
