Quailty, intelligent TV.

Just don't sit and watch it with your wife that has no idea how US politics work - becomes a monster Q&A session and you need the patience of a saint (and the time to re-watch the episode at a later date when she's not there).

hehe unfortunately that makes me even dumber - she's the brains of our particular outfit - however, she doesn't know a thing about the workings of US government.

I'm a huge fan of The West Wing. Fantastic scripts and plots, and awesome political speeches. Why can't real politicians deliver lines like:

Bartlet said:
...restoring abundance amid an economic shortfall, securing peace in a time of global conflict, sustaining hope in this winter of anxiety and fear. More than any time in recent history, America's destiny is not of our own choosing. We did not seek nor did we provoke an assault on our freedom and our way of life. We did not expect nor did we invite a confrontation with evil. Yet the true measure of a people's strength is how they rise to master that moment when it does arrive. Forty-four people were killed a couple of hours ago at Kennison State University. Three swimmers from the men's team were killed and two others are in critical condition, when, after having heard the explosion from their practice facility, they ran into the fire to help get people out. Ran into the fire. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels tonight. They're our students and our teachers and our parents and our friends. The streets of heaven are too crowded with angels, but every time we think we have measured our capacity to meet a challenge, we look up and we're reminded that that capacity may well be limitless. This is a time for American heroes. We will do what is hard. We will achieve what is great. This is a time for American heroes and we reach for the stars.

I will buy the box set eventually, but as I have all the episodes (in various quality) on my hard drive, I can afford to hold off. Money is better spent elsewhere at the moment...like on cars! smile

I absolutely love the WW, have seen every episode at least 4 or 5 times laugh

Lost it's way a bit after Aaron Sorkin quit but series 6 and 7 were good.

Toby Ziegler is The Man.

I think my wife has given up trying to understand what is going on and watches it in the hope of seeing some nice dresses.

You're not the only one! I actually stayed up to watch the 2008 US presidential results come in - never cared about US politics previously...

I have Marcellus and his wife Kate to thank for getting me into The West Wing. Absolutely fantastic series with some of the best writing; fantastically sharp and gives a real insight into the kinds of things that go on behind the scenes.

S2 E10

Leo "How'd it go?"

Josh "Did you wait around for me?"

Leo "How'd it go?" To this Josh makes one of his usual jokes.

Leo "This guy's walking down the street when he falls in a hole. The walls are so steep he can't get out. "A doctor passes by and the guy shouts up, 'Hey you. Can you help me out?' The doctor writes a prescription, throws it down in the hole and moves on. "Then a priest comes along and the guy shouts up, 'Father, I'm down in this hole can you help me out?' The priest writes out a prayer, throws it down in the hole and moves on "Then a friend walks by, 'Hey, Joe, it's me can you help me out?' And the friend jumps in the hole. Our guy says, 'Are you stupid? Now we're both down here.' The friend says, 'Yeah, but I've been down here before and I know the way out.'"

Leo "As long as I got a job, you got a job."

It's full of great music and there also many many lines that are great quotes.

Lots of good scenes on youtube too, look up the butterball hotline one, it's freakin hysterical (in a West Wing kind of way).
