Stop remaking great British films. Or even American ones for that matter.

For some reason this really bothers me. Perhaps I should just get over it, but I find it annoying and arrogant.

Some examples:

Great Film: / Utterly st Remake:
Day of the Jackal / Jackal
Get Carter / Get Carter
School for Scoundrels / School for Scoundrels
Fever Pitch / Fever Pitch aka A Perfect Catch
The Thomas Crown affair / The Thomas Crown Affair

etc, ad nauseam.

I can't think of any at the moment that have been remade and are better, willing to consider any offers....

And while you're at it, don't nick stories from Polish-born British novelists of the 19th Century and turn them into Vietnam films without acknowledging the original work. Piss poor drills. wkers.

Hollywood remake - The Magnificent Seven - a little dodgy.


Thomas Crown was not remade by Hollywood, Pierce did it himself back mostly by Irish Money. Actually I like this film quite a bit - watched it last night - its very good.

I agree that the Brosnan Crown Affair is a good film, and decree that it is not an 'utterly st' remake, I do not think it's as good as the original.

Although I'm not quite as forthright as andy400 in the gist of what he is saying, he is basically correct.
The remake is alrightish. The original sums up an era so perfectly it could almost be a time capsule.

I was still a twinkle in my daddy's eye when the original was made, maybe that's why I think it's a load of old squit.

I like both films. I grew up with the original, so of course I'm going to think that's good, but I think the remake (with the very delectable Johnny Depp ) is closer to the book.
