how retarded are the people who cant even put a simple bike together.

they are advising that people take it to a trained mechanic for assembly.

is the world getting that dumb that adults cant build something that 20 years ago almost every kid could do easyly.

Why not. Not everyone can do things that others find easy.

I've seen some incorrectly assembled bikes (in Halfords own window display)
It seems Asda featured one in its TV Ad

If you value your life then go to a proper bike shop

I used to work at a shop assembling bikes. Whilst not difficult (I was 16, with some bike knowledge, but not all that much), it is probably beyond the ability of many. Especially things like adjusting the brakes and gears, not to mention the fact that many people might not even have the right tools to do the job. The suggestion made by the site does not seem stupid at all.

Made me laugh that they advised getting the bikes assembled by an expert as their numpties didn't do the nuts up tight enough. Didn't think you needed to be an expert to know it's a good idea to do nuts up tight rolleyes

my point is not that long ago most kids could completly strip and rebuild a bike when they are about 9.

do these people also struggle to change a lightbulb?

this used to be a country of engineers!

Yeah but people will buy stuff thinking its only a few nuts and bolts to screw up. How many hunter gather men will put arms up and say "dunno how this goes together"

How can you actually fail to assemble a bicycle?

Put the seat were the handle bars should be? it's like failing to dress yourself.

Fair enough, but if it goes wrong it's hardly the fault of the supplier.

There was a survey thing some years ago to try and find Britian's greates engineer. Who do you think won? Brunel? Whittle? Barnes-Wallace? Stephenson? Bell? ... nope, the person voted as the most famous British engineer was the car mechanic in Eastenders! banghead

Much as I am in favor of letting the idiot gene wreak its ruin, I wonder how it all now sits in this litigious society where the owners of this gene will be looking for excuses. I agree with you btw.

Absolutely agree with you with regards to the average BMX with no gears/suspension/v brakes etc.

Not so for me with my first racing bike when my Dad had to take my bike back to the shop with the derailleurs in the back wheel smile

Another factor (I didn't see the program except for some chap folding up his bike and taking it into his office building) is that kids have the time. Adults can't be bothered to learn something they may only find useful once in their lives...

500 years ago kids could kill a deer with a spear at 7...times change. I never stripped a bike at 9....cleaned it maybe? My kids couldn't either but my 9 year old knows more about computers than i did at 25 - i wonder whether computer use of bike building will help him most when he's job hunting in 2019?

Hardest part of assembling those bikes was using the pathetic tools supplied with them. With a decent set of spanners/sockets it would be easy.

These new el cheapo kit bikes bear little resemblance to the bikes kids had 15-20 years ago. They are total sheeite, made of pig iron with nuts/bolts fashioned from cheese.

One of the reasons they're so difficult to put together properly is because they are so very badly made.

Avoid at all costs!! Landfill fodder, that's all they are.
