It is exactly 10 years to the day since Fight Club was released. I remember going to see it in a half empty cinema and loving it so much I went back the next day.

Yes, the Matrix went two films too far.

I realised I was getting old last year when listening to Steve Wright one day (no that's not it). They played a Golden Oldie and it was MC Hammer's U Can't Touch This! That's not some ancient track from ye olden days is it?! biggrin

The first matrix had an innovative stylistic approach that every 2nd action film since has ripped off, so it now looks tired.

No's 2 and 3 were too opulent, overblown and somewhat directionless, they got given too much money to refuse to repeat the success of the first film, rather than leaving it for a bit and making the sequels in their own time IMO.

i had one of those nokias and once maybe twice, your honour, i admit that i pushed the button and said "tank, we're going to need an exit"

it was funny twice i think.

sometimes i feel like marty mcfly telling youngsters that these are re-runs.

EFA

The Wachowski brothers ripped off its "stylistic approach" from the manga/anime Ghost in the Shell.

but they did a very impressive job at bringing that into the mainstream, to regular audiences the film really was revolutionary in it's style - personally I still think The Matrix is awesome even today, too bad that the sequels sucked as IMO they have tarnished the Matrix's place in movie history.

No argument there, I just get a little narc'd as a massive GiTS fan when people fail to recognise the massive influence it had on the Matrix' visual style.

Point taken, it was pretty fresh imagery to the mainstream at the time though and they did a fastidious job in it's execution. (How many great movies didn't rip something from somewhere) The number of matrix-esque effects in 2nd rate action movies that followed became bloody annoying.

It's much more interesting and complicated now. Not only do we have eight "proper" planets, but hundreds of other objects ranging from KBOs (like Pluto) to comets, asteroidss, meteors etc.
