PhoneShop - Comedy Showcase on C4 Fri night 13-11-09

Did anyone see this last night?

I started watching it and I had concluded it was crap before I was even 5 minutes in. However, I stuck with it and by the end I thought it was quite enjoyable.

Ch4. have apparently already commisioned a 6-part series. Ricky Gervais was the script editor and I liked all the characters apart from maybe Ashley (the white male shop assistant).

Wasn't there a mobile phone sketch on another show that had Ricky's writing partner Stephen Merchant and Dean Gaffney in it?

I certainly thought it was better than the previous week's. All 5 of the characters were pretty good. Not sure how much mileage is in it though.

I saw the last 15 minutes of it -i thought it was really good, especially when the 2 blokes were showing the young guy how to make a sale.

will try and catch it as soon as it comes onto 4od - which i'll go check now.

I quite enjoyed it, but part of that may be due to having "Tanyahhhhh" from Ideal in it.

I thought last night's was the first episode, I had a look on C4's site and didn't see any mention of a previous one, but I may have missed it.

The Stephen Merchant and Dean Gaffney Mobile phone sketch was part of Extras and was quite enjoyable even if it meant having to see/hear Gervais.

It was the only episode - the one last week was a kind-of Green Wing set in a University. And it was crap.

I think the comedy showcase series is a different thing every week, to try them out and see which ones work. They will then be made into a series, which is what is rumoured to be happening with PhoneShop.

Quite welcome. I am now off to call my Mum and tell her she was wrong and that there can be some good to come out of all the hours I spend watching TV!!.

Good to hear they are making a series of PhoneShop, sure hope that can build on or at least continue the comedic value.

I thought I was the only one here that watched Ideal!
