yeah.. it was worth the watch, good story

a bit overrated though IMO

editing + narrative style kind of a bit hackneyed as well

Saw this years ago - felt it was massively overrated. It's not a bad film by any means but I do get the feeling that its one of those films that everyone raves about because they feel they are supposed to in order to look cultured or intellectual.

to be fair though it was in production 8 or 9 years ago now, a long long time before Slumdog (and its a fair bit more real and gritty than slumdog)

but i kind of agree with you ..

a lot of the techniques used Scorcese did in Goodfellas 2 decades ago !

rofl

now that would be worth a look!

i thought city of god was excellent, but it is a few years old now so might look dated due to others taking the same lead or style.

i liked the real edginess of it and the graininess of it, and the fact that the characters were introduced and then disposed of, gave it that realistic pointlessness of the gang war situation. and the use of unknowns was a very good move.

not sure it stacks up to repeated viewing but certainly a credible effort
