In the book, people are turned blind by a meteor shower. Why have they changed this to a "Solar Storm"?

It's over 30 years since I read the book so can't remember all of the details.

I saw the movie in our local cinema as a child and it scared the living daylights out of me. Looking at the film today, it is actually very poor.

If we are having a moan then the instant blinding rather than waking up blind does not work so well for me.

Plot changes apart I am still looking forward to watching it as I am with any Sci Fi on TV.

Look - can't we just see this as a different version just for a change ? The drama series in the 80's can't be bettered for me anyway so I'll watch this new 2 parter with an open mind. It's not a replacement, just a different version.

Hope its a good'un. BBC always show great trailers, but often a let down when you actually see the program. Fingers crossed.

I may or may not watch it - I don't watch a huge amount of TV drama these days. Last year BBC totally wrecked "The 39 Steps". Let's hope they don't do the same with this.

Funny you should say that. The Quatermass films scared the living st out of me when I were a lad in the fifties/ early sixties, but looking at them now, you realise they are a bit ropey too.

What I would say to anyone is read the book. It's still a good read, as is Wyndham's other well known book, 'The Kraken Wakes'.
