Remember Johnny Ball?

His shows were fantastic, and ignited a lifelong interest in science and maths for me. I was wondering what he was up to these days, and wiki'd him last night. That led me to his webpage, and I thought I'd fire off a random email to him letting him know how much I loved his shows as a kid.

I got a lovely personal email back from him (I never mentioned how much I'd like to bang his daughter). He's a top bloke!

I always remember one of his programs where he started by asking that was 1 + 1. He told us it was 10, and I was like.. wait.. what.. He then went on to explain the binary system. He comes across as a genuine, humble and interesting guy, as well as a climate change skeptic.

Here's a picture of Johnny Ball, purely because he's so amazing smile

He made good TV shows, remember the one where he cut a poo in half whilst describing what it's made of ?

I've met Tony Hart, top cravat wearing chap and the Rolfmeister, mad as a box of frogs.

It's a C/P reply, but it was a reply nonetheless biggrin

Dear Rob

Thanks for your support. It is much appreciated and there have been a flood of a similar nature.

I am convinced that I am right on this issue and have held that view for 20 years, and longer than the IPCC has existed. If you set up an IPCC are they ever in all honesty, going to come back and say, "There is no Climate Change, will you make us redundant please?"

To be honest, I brought it upon myself on Tuesday.

My opening gambit with Dalton's Atomic Theory and Water and CO2 and Hydrocarbons and Oxygen and animals and plants, is irrefutable and I took them with me on that.

But I did over do it, and kept on way past my allotted time, which was unfair to both audience and the rest of the cast, and perhaps that was just cause for the hiss-boo antics. It was when I said that the Univ of East Anglia had been caught cooking the books for the sake of their funding grants, that the audience (on UCL property) reacted and started the slow handclap. Hecklers I can handle, slow hand clap is moronic and relentless. I had pointed out that we are 50% identical in DNA with a banana. I said, If I have offended anyone tonight, I want to apologise - to the bananas and left.

I started on this whole tack because of my connections with education. I cannot stand by and see a generation brainwashed into a state of gloom and despair over erroneous future predictions that the world will be unable to sustain human life by 2050. It drives people away from science and we will surely need scientists and technologists to solve any problems we will have in the future. The expenditure on CO2 reduction is futile and results in reducing the amount we spend on the Third World where it would do much more good for humanity and the planet.

I believe the future will be brighter than we can yet imagine, and that is where I would have ended up last night, but for the situation.

Twitter was a'twitter today with JB Lampooning, but it is the nature of the beast.

Tonight, I opened, It's hot in here isn't it? It's cold outside - Climate change - and went straight into a routine that did not visit the same area. But I will make time to address the issue again and keep plugging on my beliefs. My motivations, I believe are much fairer and more rational than most of those that oppose me.

With many thanks for your support and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year,

Cheers,

Johnny Ball.

Met him at a work do (will crack out the picture when I get home) - he's a true gent. Made science amazing for all to behold.

He seemed a little bitter not to be on TV anymore - because of his belief that climate change is all bull.

He's ace!

He's on it every week. He poses complicated questions for the listeners, usually maths or logic-based.

I am yet to get one right.

ETA: Zoe's feature is called "Ball Of Confusion".

This will be familiar to those of us listening to Radio 2 at early-o'clock on a Saturday morning.

I interviewed him back when I was 17 for the school newspaper! Was a surreal experience just me and him chatting away about his experiences, charity work and of course his daughter wink

On a similar note, a friend of mine emailed Clive James after seeing a re-run of Postcard from Paris. It had a profound effect on my friend the first time around, he ended up moving there and setting up a successful bike business, and he emailed to say thanks for the show.

He also got a personal email back, and Clive James also felt quite humbled that he had such a positive effect from one of his documentaries.

Not all celebs are fame-hungry publicity wes!
