Unfortunately not the extended cut, which IMHO is hugely better. I'll pass until the full version is made available.

They are trying to milk it again by releasing the theatrical version before the extended.

There are a few who prefer the theatrical cut but everyone else should wait for the extended.

I've got them all, plus the Hobbit and the Silmarillion, but the films are a damn site quicker to watch! wink

The rumour is that the theatrical release is coming this year (2010) and the extended editions are coming next year (2011). It's another attempt to try and get fans to buy the same film twice.

I'll definitely hold off for the extended version then. We watched them the last three sundays before christmas there again and they're just superb.

Would be superb on blu ray.

Like many have read LOTR literally hundreds of times, the silmarillon at least 20, the unfinished ones a fair few too.

When they announced the movie i was quite happy to hate the films on priniciple and went to see them with that aim. have to say that i enjoyed them- they aren't perfect to the books, but they have the right "feel" and most of the important bits were done very very well.

The biggest disappointment was the ending- for me the return of the hobbits to the shire, and their new found ability to solve their own problems against stronger powers was what all 6 books (7 if you count the hobbit i guess) were about.

It almost but not quite ruined the films.

Having said that i will definitely be buyng the extended version on BluRay when they come out to join the DVD special editions i already own.
