Why has this been made?

I watched something on it on BBC Northwest Tonight and the show is now on.

I just don't get what this show is about.

Are they suggesting Muslim women are idiots and need extra support to drive?

If it is on the BBC, then probably not.

Here's me thinking being a Muslim was determined by what religion you follow, they're not a seperate species.

Do they paint all the windows black with just a letterbox view out of the windscreen?

Really this is so BBC, with their sycophantic broadcasting to the lowest common denominator. They are trying to be multicultural but those who's ways they are trying to "mend" by showing just what it is like to be a real Muslim woman will be watching the other side and had no desire to watch it.

p.s. turned it on for 5 minutes and all I saw was a load of people in Ninja outfits talking about which schools their kids had got into - bizarre. No sign of any driving confused

Hold on, isn't the point of 'anti discrimiation' sentiments that we 'should not discriminate'?

I heard a quote that some black actor (morgan feeman?) was asked something like "As a black man, what is your opinion on how discrimiation should be combatted?" His response "So long as my opinion is being sought 'as a black man' then I can't see an end to discrimination any time soon." (Or something like that.)

I don't see 'muslim driving school' as a positive thing, nor would it be positive to have 'jewish driving school', 'christian driving school', 'hindu driving school' or 'irish driving school'.

I am not getting my chuddies twisted.

I fail to see the point of this show. Why single out one religion. Muslim women are not different to Christian/Sikh/Hindu women. All religions have learner drivers.
It was as if the beeb are saying Muslim women are so different due to the way muslim men behave/have behaved in the past and we are going to show them getting some independance/joining the modern world.

Why not just have a learner driver show or a show about women learning to drive?

I honestly think the beeb have to have x amount of hours dedicated to all groups of ethnicity/faith/religion and this was just a quick way of ticking the progammes featuring/aimed at Muslim box.

It's just another minority group that is being looked at, like BNP wives or gangster wives, we have Muslim women drivers. As said, hardly a chuddie twisting item.

Thats EXACTLY what they were saying...and they were right. The only oddity to the show was the white girl who had clearly joined Islam due to being nuts and looking for any alternative to a life of drugs....she had none of the issues of the others (years of male dominance, cultural pressure, language issues) and shouldnt have been in the show.....though it was funny to see her and her nija master driving around in the burka mobile!

IN some respects though women of a number of religions can be seriously oppressed by fundamentalism.. So perhaps for some muslim women, learning to drive is a serious step towards westernisation?

(I didn't watch the show though, I'd have only switched it on if it had said, Harry Enfield style, Women are s**t drivers, let's watch them fail to drive)

I saw this advertised, and thought that it was a ridiculous concept for a programme (didn't watch it, I must add), but an absolute golden opportunity for a brilliant send up / satire / sketch show.

My concept would include RPG equipped white Toyota Hiluxs with L plates, dual control camels, detailed lessons on Scottish airport parking, driving licence photo taking, lessons in screaming jibberish at 120 decibels when they are the cause of an accident to try and pass blame, loading several generations into the back seat of a smoking 1970s Mercedes, improvising road side explosive devices if someone parks outside their homes etc etc etc

The kind of comedy gold that is considered absolutely abhorent rascism, unless it is portrayed by the minority themselves, in the same way that there was a period of that Kumar kind of Indian comedy that wasn't rascist as they were Indian, and how Matt Lucas and Walliams seem to be able to get away with whatever they like.

Agree...its a joke that Muslims can make all those TV shows where they portray themselves as terrorists in old mercs...is that really what my licence fee pays for.

And dont get me started on Walliams...just because he's a white, middle class heterosexual male why should he be given free rain to send up ethnic minorities, disabled, women, gays, lesbians and bitty lovers....no way would anyone else be allowed to do it.

I blame Labour.
