Saw this last night as i usually like Denzil Washington's work and indeed his performance was good, but there was just too much silliness surrounding him for me. I often struggle with British actors in American films and this probably qualifies, they were just so hammy! Michael Gambon and Frances De La Tour were probably put in to lighten things up, but i found them a bit ridiculous. Gary Oldman was a stereotypical baddie, but just about got away with it IMO.

Denzil just about props the film up above mediocrity. If they'd cut out the silliness, it could have eclipsed the first Mad Max. 6.5/10 for me.

Anyone else seen it?

Edited to add that i've been playing Fallout 3 on Xbox and the landscape, desolation, bleakness and colour tone are nigh on identical!

The Book of Eli just the Bible?

Because that would be rubbish!

I made that connection from the trailer too! Makes it all the more typical that a certain individual gets to decide who reads from "his" book. Religious nutters!

Sounds like Gordon Brown wink

Went to watch this Friday, I didn't really see the ending coming though rolleyes

I made the immediate relationship to fallout 3 through - probably the main reason I went to watch it to be honest.

Thought the bible thing was a bit daft as it could of been so much more.

I kinda ignored the religous aspect as i'm just a grubby heathen, but i guess there is some good material in there for the odd zealot or two!

Why has a mod put a spoiler tag on the thread title? I can see no spoilers anywhere!!

Watched this at the weekend, quite enjoyed it.
But the oddest bit i thought was when he took cover behind a Rover P6 V8 in the shanty town, around the 50 minute mark. What an odd car to use for the scene, i would imagine most yanks wouldn't even know what it was.
(Surprised no comments on here about it).

It was pretty good until the last 25 minutes.
A story about how the bible can be used by bad people to control stupid people. Brilliant.
Then in the last 25 minutes they basically said "Wait, no it doesn't.." which we know from experience isn't true.

Also the twist at the end makes it even more stupid.

Nice amount of action, and great eye candy with Mila Kunis.
