I think I will be next. Fed up with the constant adverts. I can understand this on ITV/CH4 but the amount you pay. AGGGH!

Freesat... £55 quid for the HD box and no subscription.

I did this a while back, moved to a Media PC with a freeview card...

Wish I had sky again! I miss the discover channels.

+1 for freesat, I splashed out on the Foxsat HD box, its pretty good, but quite pricey.

Picture quality seems better on most channels than SKY ever did, especially on the second TV in the bedroom via the scart to coax tranceiver I shoved on the back.

You can watch BBC iplayer via the Foxsat boxes too if you plug them into your broadband router.

Next step, cancel BT broadband and get something better or cheaper, or both!

It would be nice though if there was more than 1 full time HD channel. Anyone know what the plans are for offering more?

I just sky to cancel my tv only 3 months into a 12 month sky HD contract.

Basically they decided that they couldn't be bothered to install a phone line as originally agreed so I accused them of mis-selling and threatened trading standards.

They cancelled with immediate effect, cancelled the last tv bill and are sending someone to de-install the dish.

biggrin

I still can't get my head around the idea of paying for television. Am I an old fart, a Scrooge or sensible?

For what I'm paying, you don't get VFM anymore.

Years ago people bought Sky because they were bored with the same old rubbish on 4 channels. A bit more range and choice. Now it is simply a matter of hundreds of channels of rubbish and repeats now repeating the same stuff that the 4 channels have been for years, and it gets on your nerves when you are paying two people, the BBC and Sky, for the privilege of having nothing to watch.

I had the full sky package for 9 years until September, haven't bothered since moving, don't miss it, haven't watched live tv in over 2 months now. Only DVD's, Blu-ray and i-player... not going back to it far better things to spend time doing...

Not had Sky for years, on freesat now. No point in paying monthly fees for TV channels. Not exactly cheap either.

I think he means on top of his tv licence after all you need a licence if you have sky!

Indeed. You have to pay TV tax even if you don't switch the thing on. But why anyone would want to pay extra for obscure sports events and repeats of American sit-coms is beyond me. Am I right in saying a full Sky etc package can be over 50 quid a month?

Apparently I can get that now, but I'd have to buy another box. I've got a Freesat box already, and it has nowhere near paid for itself yet!

Well I think Sky is still the premium brand. Not the cheapest but the best by a mile. 50 pounds a month for pretty full package. Sky+ to skip the adverts. Loads of HD including ITV. Whenever I call them a UK person answers quickly. A small premium to pay IMHO
