Why have they been replaced by, what I can only describe as, Public Information Broadcasts?

I used to enjoy the range of adverts broadcast locally - usually some actually useful stuff being advertised. It seems this is no longer the case. I have travelled for nigh on 5 hours today, with local radio of various descriptions on. I haven't heard more than a handful of 'proper' ads all day.

What I have heard about, repeatedly, and in no particular order are:
1. The dangers of not wearing a seatbelt, in full, graphic detail.
2. The dangers of not taxing my car.
3. The extra tax credits I may be eligible for if go from full time --> part time work, and how it's most important that I inform them.
4. That the flu vaccine has been medically tested and been approved and I should get it. Unless I'm normal.
5. How, if my children do not follow a curriculum from the ages of 0-5 they will be damaged for life.
6. How bread, potato and apple lovers hate waste...

And the worst one:

How some chap now can't think straight because he ran over a child. This advert implies very much that it was BECAUSE the driver was driving at 30mph, rather than 20mph.

I always thought the idea was not to hit anything, regardless of speed?

I like the "Crash at 30 without a seatbelt and you may die"

which overlooks the "crash at 30 with a steatbelt and you may die" incidents
