I just finished watching UP; the newest Pixar movie. Is it just me or have the last 3 or 4 Pixar movies had exactly the same story, just with different charecters and settings. But the plot:- Charecter is lonley / depressed, goes on a journet, makes new friends, overcomes some sort of adversity and has a happy ending. I know a lot of films probably fall into this trap, but it just seems overally apparent with the latest Pixar stuff.

The animation was great, per usual, but the film failed to live up to the hype. Still prefer Cars which was a tour de force.

I must admit I always enjoy the Pixar stuff, and I am really looking forward to Toy Story 3 and Cars 2.

I agree, nice films that make you feel good, i have to admit i did think that the first 20mins or so of Up was quite sad but is a refrshing change to have just a nice happy film to watch instead of kill-goremax volume 12billion

Up actually made me cry a bit (just a little man tear, obviously).

First film to do that since Forest Gump hehe

I find Pixar hit and miss. I loved Up, and the Toy Story franchise is great. The only other pixar worth bothering with in the Incredibles. I found Up refreshing with the beginning, the sadness of it. A disney film hasn't started with a death since Bambi I think, definitely one of their best efforts for a while, don't really agree with your theory, it's too vague.

I'n not convinced Toy Story 3 isn't going to be a milking exercise as Buzz Lightyear was such a strong character. Rather like Shrek which ran out of steam on Number 3 as did Ice Age where 3 is just rubbish.

The Cars original story is a classic one and very evocative of the age so the sequel could be good or bad. I'm praying that they don't spend the budget solely on 3D (as seems to be the case with Ice Age 3 whose 3D wasn't even that good). Avatar has rather raised the 3D bar so it does need to be good....very good in fact. Question is where can you take the storyline? I just hope that like Toy Story 2 and Ice Age 2, it's as good as, even better than the original or it's stand-alone classic status could be in danger. (Oh and please no more Clarkson).

Cars was almost a direct copy of the film "Doc Hollywood" starring Michael J Fox. Except instead of being a doctor, he was a car.

Wasn't that only for the UK/European release? Schumacher was an interesting one at the end. Who'd they have now?

Up was very clever in how it dealt with the process of bereavement - letting go and all that - a lot deeper than would first appear.

Up and Wall E share a common feature in that they have brilliant beginnings (Wall Es great beggining is allot longer however) then are a bit more average for the rest of the movie length.

I think Pixar get away with it a bit because of the reputation they have established.
